Amanda Knox has opened up about her fears that 'motherhood had been stolen from her' following her wrongful murder conviction in Italy, saying she imagined 'all the ways she could kill herself in her prison cell in the wake of her 26-year sentence.   The 34-year-old had already spent two years in prison when she was convicted of her British roommate Meredith Kercher's 2007 murder in December 2009. After spending nearly four years behind bars, she was acquitted in 2011 and returned home to the United States.  Knox welcomed her first child — a daughter Eureka Muse Knox-Robinson — with her husband Christopher Robinson earlier this year after suffering a devastating miscarriage.  In a new essay for Oprah Daily, she detailed how her dreams of being a mother were first dashed when she was sentenced to spend her childbearing years behind bars.  'My first infertility crisis occurred when I was sentenced to 26 years in prison for a murder I didn’t commit,' she wrote in the piece, titled 'Sentenced to Infertility,' admitting she had 'naively assumed that the truth couldn't help but...

The "Rust" crew member who reportedly gave Alec Baldwin a prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was previously the subject of a safety complaint.  Crew member Maggie Goll said in a statement to The Associated Press that she filed an internal complaint with the executive producers of Hulu’s "Into the Dark" series in 2019 over concerns about assistant director Dave Halls' behavior on set. Goll said in an email Sunday that Halls disregarded safety protocols for weapons and pyrotechnics and tried to continue filming after a crew member had "slipped into a diabetic fugue state." "He did not maintain a safe working environment," Goll told NBC News. "Sets were almost always allowed to become increasingly claustrophobic, no established fire lanes, exits blocked ... safety meetings were nonexistent." Baldwin fired a prop gun on the New Mexico set of the film "Rust" Thursday, killing 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza, who was standing behind her. Souza has since been released from the hospital. It was previously reported that Halls handed Baldwin the firearm mistakenly announcing at the time...
ROYAL insiders have slammed claims that the Queen's hospital stay was "covered up" and say public were "given the complete picture." And now correspondents and journalists have slammed the palace for not giving the public the full picture of the Queen's health. Nicholas Witchell, the BBC's royal correspondent, insisted journalists – and the public – "weren’t given the complete picture." He added: "The problem, it seems to me, is that rumour and misinformation always thrive in the absence of proper,...

Sign up for the free Mother Jones newsletter. This week, two of only three Black US Senators threw in the towel on congressional police reform—a perfect embodiment of both government dysfunction and the lack of real commitment to systematically overhaul the way the police functions in this country. When George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man in Minneapolis, was murdered by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, in May of 2020, massive racial justice protests swept the nation, and Republicans and Democrats agreed that something must be done. The only question was what? That was up to Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.) to find out. It’s taken more than a year, but we finally have the disappointing but completely unsurprising results: Nothing. During the time they were at work, the coronavirus spread, vaccines became available, Joe Biden was elected president, months of lies and political instability followed culminating in the January 6 attack on the Capitol. Still, they negotiated and reassured the public that they were close...
On Friday’s broadcast of the Fox Business Network’s “Kudlow,” Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) stated that the testimony of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley and Commander of United States Central Command Gen. Frank McKenzie that they advised keeping troops on the ground in Afghanistan matches earlier testimony in a classified briefing by the former commander of U.S. troops in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller, and there are now three high-ranking generals contradicting President Joe Biden’s claim that he wasn’t advised to keep troops Cramer said Milley and McKenzie’s statements are “consistent with what Gen. Scotty Miller told the committee in a classified briefing a couple of weeks ago. So, you’ve got now three four-star generals basically saying, no, it was not unanimous.” Cramer then discussed why he thinks Biden isn’t telling the truth about the advice he was given, stating, “There [are] a couple of things: One of the possibilities is that Joe Biden doesn’t really know what’s going on. I think that’s a very high possibility, that he sort of sees the world the way he wishes...

White House press secretary Jen Psaki declined to say whether any military official advised President Biden that some 2,500 troops should be left in Afghanistan in a briefing Tuesday. She said the president was presented with a 'range of options,' but 'ultimately,  regardless of the advice, it’s his decision.'  'He’s the commander in chief. He’s the president. He makes decisions about that what’s in the national interest, and he believed we should end the war.' Both Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Mark Milley and head of US Central Command Frank McKenzie said that they had voiced an opinion to keep a small number of troops in Afghanistan to stave off Taliban control.  Psaki had tried to defend the president against the admissions even before her daily briefing.    'As @POTUS told ABC, ending the war in Afghanistan was in our national interest. He said advice was split, but consensus of top military advisors was 2500 troops staying meant escalation due to deal by the previous admin., the Chairman, and GEN McKenzie all reiterated,' she wrote on Twitter.  Pressed on what she meant by...
An awkward silence hangs in the air as I wait for my two-year-old cockapoo, Buddy, to explain why he won’t stop tormenting the cat. We’re in separate armchairs in the garden sun lounge of animal communicator Jackie Weaver (same name as the council clerk who became a viral sensation, but no relation). Jackie, 57, has agreed to facilitate a heart-to-heart between Buddy and me so we can discuss this, and other bad behaviour, via her psychic ability to read pets’ minds. This sounds bonkers, I know. But a team of German scientists recently announced that dogs seem to be capable of knowing what their owners are thinking. Researchers from the University of Gottingen conducted an experiment that involved passing treats to various breeds of dog through a gap in a transparent wall. The Biden administration has begun scrubbing public records detailing the $82.9 billion U.S. investment in Afghanistan's armed forces to protect Afghan officials and military officers from Taliban reprisals. Federal agencies have been told to remove information detailing the colossal investment from website as Afghanistan's new rulers show off their newly acquired hardware. Taliban fighters stood aboard captured Humvees and armored SUVs as they paraded through Kandahar, where propaganda video has circulated of a Black Hawk flying overhead. In all, they are believed to have seized an air force worth tens of millions of dollars although U.S. officials say aircraft were disabled before the departure of international troops.  The total amount of hardware supplied to Afghanistan is staggering. Between 2003 and 2016, the U.S. supplied 208 aircraft and almost 76,000 vehicles, along with 600,000 weapons, according to a 2017 report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Fox News’ national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin said Thursday the “arbitrarily set” withdrawal deadline was impossible to adhere to. “[T]hey knew it was going to happen,” Griffin said of the ISIS-K terrorist attack outside the Kabul airport that resulted in the deaths of 13 U.S. service members. “They knew, the U.S. Military knew that when they were given a strict timeline to pullouts, that they would be going back in. They would be going back in, possibly under fire.” WATCH: She went on to challenge President Joe Biden’s promise to “hunt down” those responsible for the deadly explosion. “The notion now that they are going to hunt down ISIS and they are going to stop those who carried out the attack boggles the mind. The people they would have relied on to do that kind of work, hunt down the terrorists, they are now cowering and hiding in basements in safe houses because they can’t get to the airport for safety,” Griffin stated. The national security reporter added that if the U.S. military could not manage to identify...
