In this article CMCSAScott Mlyn | CNBCShares of Comcast dipped Tuesday morning after President and CEO of Comcast Cable Dave Watson said the company expects to add1.3 million high-speed internet customers for the year. That's short of analyst expectations of 1.4 million subscribers, per a Factset consensus. The company's stock was down more than 5% on an otherwise green day for tech stocks. The figure implies Comcast may add 185,000 new high-speed internet customers during the fourth quarter, far below the 538,000 it added in the same quarter last year. It's the second time this year Comcast has provided early guidance on broadband subscribers that caused the stock to dip. Comcast CFO Michael Cavanagh had previously warned in September that the company expected broadband additions to slow during the third quarter. Investors have feared a slowdown in the broadband segment after the Covid-19 pandemic fueled internet services growth. Shares of Comcast are off about 19% from 52-week high on Sept. 3, 2021. Now, at 47, the California native’s life has changed forever thanks to “Red Rocket,” the new film by “The Florida Project” director Sean Baker. Rex, who has been living out near Joshua Tree, is suddenly winning awards at film festivals from Newport Beach to Mill Valley and even generating Oscar buzz for his rambunctious yet poignant portrayal of Mikey Saber, the self-absorbed whirlwind who blows into Texas City, Texas, trailing trouble in his wake.  Mikey is a porn star, who hit a rough patch and has returned home to lick his wounds and plot his triumphant return, although that actually gives Mikey a bit more credit for planning than he really deserves. There’s money in misery, a study affirmed Tuesday, as it revealed the share of household wealth owned by billionaires soared by a record amount during the global coronavirus pandemic. Millionaires were not far behind. Reuters outlines the World Inequality Report produced by a network of social scientists estimated billionaires over the past 12 months collectively own 3.5 percent of global household wealth, up from slightly above two percent at the start of the pandemic in early 2020. “The COVID crisis has exacerbated inequalities between the very wealthy and the rest of the population,” lead author Lucas Chancel said, noting rich economies used massive fiscal support to mitigate the sharp rises in poverty seen elsewhere. At the same time the rich got richer, the pandemic pushed about 100 million people into extreme poverty, raising the global total to 711 million in 2021, World Bank estimate quoted in the analysis estimated. Sometime in the next few years, crews dispatched by the Environmental Protection Agency will roll into Ashland, Massachusetts, population 19,000, and begin a $20.5 million cleanup of groundwater contaminated by waste from a chemical dye plant. That day will mark a victory for the town, where cancer deaths have been linked to toxins from the factory, which operated from 1917 to 1978. Among those buried and mourned are teens and young adults who grew up playing in puddles and ponds turned blue, purple, and other candy colors by the plant’s discharges. Sharing in this victory will be a high-profile philanthropic arts venture inspired by a Broadway producer and funded by some of the country’s largest grant makers. For a decade ending last December, ArtPlace America sprinkled $150 million across the nation, backing a kaleidoscope of projects. The goal: prove that the arts and culture are critical to the social fabric, identity, and well-being of communities. Not all the work paid dividends, and the effort raised questions about whether art-based revitalization can fuel gentrification. But the ideas behind ArtPlace are...

Viagra, the best-known drug to treat erectile dysfunction, is linked to a lower risk of Alzheimer’s. Seriously. According to a new study published Monday in the journal Nature Aging, sildenafil—the generic name for Viagra—was associated with a 69 percent reduced incidence of Alzheimer’s in a large-scale analysis of more than 7 million patients. It should be stated upfront that this study is not establishing a causal link between sildenafil and reduced Alzheimer’s risk; it simply suggests there’s a significant relationship that should be explored through actual clinical testing. But the findings are nevertheless a pleasant surprise, and the latest in a string of recent studies that highlight the potential of using old drugs to treat inscrutable diseases. “Before this study, we didn’t expect we would identify sildenafil” as a drug candidate for treating Alzheimer’s, said Feixiong Cheng, a researcher at the Cleveland Clinic and the lead author of the new study. Alzheimer’s is expected to afflict more than 13.8 million Americans by 2050, which means it’s critical to start identifying new cost-effective therapies that could improve the lives of...

But if anyone asked Hill, “Who are you wearing?” on the red carpet, the star may as well have responded, “Bert Krak.” The eye-catching clipper ship on Hill’s chest is by top tattooer Krak of Brooklyn’s Smith Street Tattoo Parlour, sources said. Hill has previously given Krak shout-outs on social media, as well as on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Guests at the NYC debut of the film — also starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence,...

By Hanh Truong | Sacramento Bee A recently released study by researchers at UC Davis revealed that pesticides can have lasting effects on bee health, reducing their reproduction rate. According to the findings, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, multiple generations of bees may be needed to recover from one pesticide application. Here’s a rundown of the study and what you can do to save the bees. What is the study and its conclusions? The study was conducted by exposing blue orchard bees to imidacloprid, a common insect control chemical, with the label’s recommended amount. The bees were given one application for two years, which is a standard level of exposure, according to the UC Davis article. “Repeated exposure across two years had an additive negative effect on individual reproduction, which led to a really dramatic reduction in population growth,” said Clara Stuligross, the study’s lead author. Researchers concluded that bees that came into contact with insecticides as larvae and as adults produced 44% fewer brood. And bees that were exposed to the chemical two years...
Brits say they want experiences and lasting memories over material gifts this Christmas, according to research. A poll of 2,000 adults found one in five is planning on giving more experiences than physical items this year. 1Nobody wants a disappointing present And 42 per cent would much rather receive a gift which creates memories, over something which is likely to be forgotten after a time. For two thirds (65 per cent), the anticipation of an event is almost as exciting as the event itself – and actually forms part of the overall experience. And part of this anticipation might be the thought they are doing something their peers might be envious of. Indeed, just over half (53 per cent) admit to suffering from ‘FOMO’ – the fear of missing out – when they hear about amazing experiences someone else has enjoyed. BOSTON (CBS) – Wastewater testing in Massachusetts shows an increase in the presence of COVID, which could predict a possible surge of cases in the state. Medical experts have been tracking wastewater data throughout the pandemic to get a better idea of how prevalent COVID really is in the community. The latest numbers are up to levels we haven’t seen since late January, based on test results from a Massachusetts Water Resources Authority pilot study. Samples are taken at the Deer Island Treatment Plant three times a week. The wastewater tested flows in from 43 communities around Boston. Testing detects the virus from people who have symptoms and from people who don’t. On Saturday, a woman in her 20s from Middlesex County became the first case of the Omicron variant confirmed in Massachusetts. The variant has now been detected in 17 states. There was increased demand for vaccines and booster shots across Massachusetts over the weekend. In Boston, Mayor Michelle Wu plans to name the members of a new COVID advisory committee on Monday. The group will be tasked with...

Teddy Bridgewater doesn’t have many chances to tackle as the Broncos quarterback but, when he does, he showed why he isn’t afraid of a business decision. Several weeks ago as Teddy Bridgewater and the Denver Broncos faced off with the Eagles, the quarterback took some flak for making a “business decision” on a Darius Slay fumble return. Specifically, the quarterback had an angle at a tackle and showed no interest in trying to make a play. Bridgewater addressed that when asked about it after the game and even said he would do better moving forward. He got the opportunity to do that on Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs. A man of his word, the Broncos quarterback threw an ugly pick to Daniel Sorensen who then had eyes for the end zone. Bridgewater made a run at the Kansas City safety but, when he made contact, Sorensen made him look like he wasn’t even there en route to a 75-yard pick-six. FRESNO, Calif. -- When Sierra Zamora realized an expected Amazon package was not on her doorstep, she checked her security footage. What she saw shocked her.The footage showed an adult walking on the sidewalk outside her home, appearing to be checking porches for packages. They go back towards their car, then walk back to the house along with a small child."It was just sad to see," said Zamora. She's lived in her home for 11 years and has never had a package stolen from her porch. From another camera, closer to the front door, the small child can be seen approaching the porch. The child appears to look confused. She looks to the adult for guidance, then sprints toward the package and grabs it."The saddest part is they were in their pajamas. Whoever it was just got them out of their car in their PJs to come steal this package," said Zamora. She says the package contained a piece for a laptop charger, nothing she says is too valuable. But it turned out to be tempting to other porch pirates."We had that same package sent again 3...
(CNN)"Is my baby dead?"I'll never forget the sound my wife made. I've heard her cry any number of times, but not like this. It was a whimper as she lay on a medical table. She squeezed my hand and moaned. I was frozen. My chest tight. I couldn't breathe. My eyes were locked on the ultrasound monitor that showed what was happening inside of my wife's uterus. A doctor I'd never met before rushed in to relieve the ultrasound technician, and their hurried movements caused my heart rate to spike. My eyes were so wide, they hurt.I watched as the physician spread teal goo around my wife's abdomen. She pushed and prodded. Whatever she was looking for, she couldn't find it. What was taking so long? I could see legs on the screen -- ribs, a head. Read MoreBut there was no sound. That rhythmic whooshing music was absent. No heartbeat. The stranger in the doctor's coat looked up at me and said, "I'm sorry." I wanted to punch something. To scream. I wanted to wake up. Instead, I felt...
