Paramount The secret of why Zero is on the Protostar might be hidden in an old ‘Voyager’ episode. The ship featured on “Star Trek: Prodigy” looks like the logical next step for starship design. The U.S.S. Protostar is sharp and pointy, almost like a spear. Recently, Heavy took a look at why this newest ship design is so sharp-looking.  Since then, we’ve had a chance to talk to an actual starship design expert — Ben Robinson. Many Trek fans are familiar with Robinson. He’s written many books covering starship design — bow to stern — including the famous Star Trek Shipyards series. He even collaborated with journalist Ian Spelling on the recent “Star Trek: The Original Series – A Celebration,” which takes fans into new territory with newly unearthed photos, sketches, and stories.Ben Robinson on Ship Design  Play BEN ROBINSON INTERVIEW – STARSHIPS | DISCOVERY | PICARD | BORG and moreBEN ROBINSON INTERVIEW – STARSHIPS | DISCOVERY | PICARD | BORG and more #startrek #eaglemoss #benrobinson Thanks for watching Join me Patreon: patreon.com/IrishTrekkie — twitter.com/theirishtrekkie — instagram.com/irishtrekkie 2nd channel — youtube.com/channel/UClDvG-XfwAJUO52xDq424zg —...
Documents obtained by human rights activists from the People’s Republic of China show that Xi Jinping, the country’s president, ordered the implementation of measures to persecute Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang Province in “top secret” speeches during the 2010s. Xi reportedly gave the orders in a series of speeches and statements, Adrian Zenz, a senior fellow with Victims of Communism, claimed in a Twitter thread on Nov. 29, citing 317 pages of documents leaked to the Uyghur Tribunal this past September. 317 pages of classified Chinese state documents were leaked to the Uyghur Tribunal in September. Former President Trump's lawyers asked a U.S. federal appeals court on Tuesday to prevent records of his conversations and actions in the run up to the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol being handed to congressional investigators.  But they immediately ran into skeptical questions from a panel of three judges, who wanted to know why a former president got to overrule the wishes of an incumbent.  'Is there a circumstance in which the former president ever gets to make this kind of call, and why should he under these circumstances?' Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, seen as a future Supreme Court nominee for President Biden, asked during the hearing. She said the legislative history showed that in a dispute between incumbent and former president, the incumbent 'gets to decide.' A House investigative committee demanded documents from the National Archives - including visitor logs, phone records and written communications - in August.  Biden has waived the right of executive privilege over hundreds of pages. The result has been a legal back and forth over whether the records are privileged and whether the House...

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish authorities have arrested a prominent member of an opposition party over accusations that he engaged in “political and military espionage,” Turkey’s state-run news agency reported. Anadolu Agency said late Monday that a court in Ankara ordered Metin Gurcan, a retired army officer and founding member of the opposition Democracy and Progress Party, or DEVA, jailed pending the outcome of a trial. Gurcan, who wrote articles on Turkish foreign policy and defense issues, last year founded the DEVA party together with its leader, Ali Babacan — a former deputy prime minister who broke away from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party. The politician and defense analyst is accused of selling alleged secret information to foreign diplomats, according to Hurriyet newspaper and other media reports. Gurcan rejected the accusations during his questioning, the reports said. A trial date is expected to be set after the court approves a prosecutors’ indictment against Gurcan. Babacan defended Gurcan in a late night television interview saying the analyst had “no means of accessing confidential information considered to be a state...

EVER noticed that there is a tiny pocket inside women’s knickers and wondered what it is for? It turns out that the secret compartment is not for storing small items, but is actually for hygiene purposes. 5Ever noticed the secret 'pouch' inside knickers? No, it is not for storing itemsCredit: Fashion101 The “pocket” is in fact the gusset of her underwear. Gussets are often made with moisture-wicking breathable fabric such as cotton which helps to keep the genitals dry and ventilated. They also are highly absorbent and prevent friction as well as reducing the risk of infection. Synthetic materials don’t provide protection against rubbing, sweat and bacteria, so the cotton insert can be key. Last year, Stacey Solomon was left baffled over the “secret noonie pockets” she discovered in all of her underwear. Taking to her Instagram story, the mum-of-three posted a video of her swimming costume, pointing out the small insert in the lining of her pants. Speaking in the video, she asked: “I have been putting away my washing and I just have to know this. “I am...

To snag some of this year’s Black Friday deals, a car won’t do you much good — try an ocean liner. Plenty of would-be holiday gifts are still at sea, caught up in a mess of global shipping delays. But shoppers who can’t find what they’re looking for this week may have another savings event to look forward to. Call it Black January. Retailers including Nike Inc. and Victoria’s Secret & Co. have struggled to get products from factories across the world in time for the most crowded shopping day of the year. Nike said in September that a typical 40-day journey for sneakers had stretched to 80 days, while 45% of Victoria’s Secret’s inventory is still delayed, including a quarter of its pajamas. Not only that, but wage gains and an almost inexplicable level of consumer demand in the U.S. suggest that this year some companies can get away without heavy discounting. Others began their doorbusters weeks ago, so any 50%-off and buy-one-get-one signs on Thanksgiving weekend will land with less effect. It’s possible that the combination of later...

Since then, the Mexican superstar has looked close to unstoppable, becoming a four-division champion and undisputed at super-middleweight. No one since GGG has taken Canelo to the brink of defeat and in need of favourable scoring. And the Kazakh legend still believes he has the remedy to finally get one over on his great rival, but can only reveal it in the ring. In an exclusive interview with SunSport, Golovkin says: “Of course there is a secret. "But it’s not the kind of secret you talk about, that’s the secret you demonstrate.  Most read...
FINDING the right emoji isn't always easy, particularly if you find yourself swiping through options on your iPhone keyboard. Fortunately, most keyboard apps come with a search function to help you hunt down the symbol you're after within seconds. 1Searching through your iPhone keyboard's catalogue of emojis is far from the quickest way to find the symbol you're afterCredit: Alamy That's all well and good if you're searching for something simple, such as the smiley emoji (search "smile") or the American flag (search "USA"). Snaring the more obscure emojis is a little trickier, however, as you might not know which keywords to search for. What do you type to find the weird David Bowie lookalike emoji, for instance, or the hand gesture made famous in the 1960s television series "Star Trek"? Fortunately, some clever clogs on the internet has tracked down the keywords for every emoji and cobbled them together in an enormous list. Typing the phrases into your iPhone keyboard's emoji search bar will bring up the symbol you're after in rapid time. It means you can avoid spending...

At last, some justice. In the news today: A jury found three men guilty of murdering Ahmaud Arbery. Rolling Stone is now reporting that the organizers of the Jan. 6 rally that resulted in violence inside the U.S. Capitol were in contact with Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows and with Eric and Lara Trump in the days immediately before the riot—and that organizers bought and used hard-to-trace "burner phones" in an attempt to hide the communications. As devoted QAnon-followers continue to wander Dealey Plaza in the belief that dead politicians will reveal themselves to the crowd at that spot, experts are warning that the cult's behavior has crossed a dangerous threshold. Here's some of what you may have missed: • Three men found guilty in murder of Ahmaud Arbery • Jan. 6 organizers used burner phones for calls with Mark Meadows, Trump family • The New York Times and CNN are spreading misinformation designed to scare people about the economy • Senate Democrats have a huge job ahead after Thanksgiving break, and little time to get it done...
Getty Patty Mills (left) and Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets When the Nets gave veteran point guard Patty Mills—whose only NBA teams to that point had been the Trail Blazers and Spurs—a two-year deal this offseason, it did not grab much notice. Mills, after all, is 33 and while he had forged a good reputation as a backup with a pretty good 3-point shot, he was not necessarily a game-changer. But drop him on the Nets alongside Kevin Durant, and it appears that has changed. Mills has been a deadeye shooter for the Nets this season and has helped the team survive its current stretch without starting shooting guard Joe Harris. Mills is shooting 48.6% from the 3-point line, which ranks fourth in the NBA among players who have attempted at least 3.0 3s per game.
