VIDEO7:4307:43The rich are getting richer — and they're fueling a private jet boomDubai Airshow Private jet demand is booming — to the extent that companies can't produce them quickly enough and buyers are facing extended wait periods for deliveries. Even secondhand business jets are vanishing from the market.      "If you look at today compared to 2019, the market has almost exploded," John Schmidt, global aerospace and defense industry lead at consultancy Accenture, told CNBC at the Dubai Air Show.   The pandemic has converted a lot of travelers to private flying, many for the first time. But analysts say the trend is primarily attributable to a wealth boom in the last year and a half, specifically at the top echelons of society as more companies go public, the stock market hits record highs and spenders enjoy an extended period of low interest rates.   Business jet take-offs and landings in the U.S. are up 40% year-on-year — and at their highest point since before the 2008 financial crisis, according to Morgan Stanley.   Public listings by companies in the U.S. have...

TAPACHULA, Mexico—As the Mexican National Guard marched along the highway, Nilton Aguilar, a 41-year-old man from Guatemala, held his 9-month-old baby daughter tightly against his chest. The last time he and his family tried to exit Tapachula—a small Mexican city at the border with Guatemala—to head north to the U.S. in August, Nilton said that Mexican immigration authorities tackled him to the ground, took his baby from his arms and beat him for hours before throwing him in jail for three months. He told The Daily Beast that by the time he was released, his family had already been deported to Guatemala, where he had returned to reunite with them after leaving prison. Now Nilton is trying again, and this time he’s one of roughly 4,000 migrants in a northbound caravan that departed Tapachula on Oct. 23 with two main goals: getting to Mexico City to pressure Mexican immigration authorities to provide legal paperwork for them to move freely inside the country, and then making it to America. Throughout the journey, Nilton’s other four children are pressed between their...
Menopause is a body change that is unique to every woman in her hormonal life cycle, but many would agree that it is one of the biggest factors in uprooting a good night’s sleep.   Sleep comes to us by way of the hormone melatonin, however, the melatonin production capacity becomes far less robust as women age.  Missing out on sleep can have a negative affect on our overall health, from low mood to making us more prone to serious medical conditions including obesity, heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure.  Leading psychologist and mindfulness expert, Hope Bastine, who is also resident expert at sleep tech firm SIMBA, has shared her top tips for getting a better night's kip with FEMAIL. (CNN)A federal judge said Friday that defiant US Capitol rioters, who are still defending their role in the January 6 insurrection, are fueling threats against judges from people who falsely believe the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump."It bothers me that she would try to associate herself with that type of violence... and then she goes on television on two occasions and is proud of what she did, and says she would do it again," district Judge Reggie Walton said at a hearing for Capitol riot defendant Lori Vinson."I know that these types of comments have an impact," Walton added. "As judges, we're getting all kinds of threats and hostile phone calls when we have these (January 6) cases before us, because there are unfortunately other people out there who buy in on this proposition, even though there was no proof, that somehow the election was fraudulent."These comments came at a sentencing hearing for Vinson and her husband, Thomas Vinson. They both pleaded guilty to illegally protesting in the Capitol, a misdemeanor. The Justice Department has asked...
Nostalgia Week: Scouted is turning back the clocks and highlighting some of the best things to come out 20+ years ago and how they’re being reinvented (and reinvigorated) in 2021. One of my favorite things to do when I visit my parents’ house is to sit up in the chaotically organized attic and sift through the myriad boxes of photos stashed amongst old soccer trophies and ski equipment that hasn’t been touched since 2005. Looking through the physical manifestations of elementary and middle school memories is comforting, and these days, watching Gen Z do it all over again is quite the experience. Flared leggings (aka yoga pants), platform sandals, and more questionable trends are getting a rebirth. One of the few fashion trends that’s starting to gain traction that I have mixed feelings about is the infamous skort. Now, I wore skorts for multiple years in elementary school and probably into middle school (though I try to block those memories out). The skort is a classic combination of pair of shorts and a skirt but was never the pinnacle of...

While Favre believes in science when it comes to the need for concussion prevention, the former NFL MVP seemed much less confident in the science that built Covid-19 vaccines. CNN anchor of At This Hour, Kate Bolduan asked Favre about the struggle with getting everyone in the NFL to trust the vaccine. “There’s a great deal of uncertainty,” Favre said. “You hear one thing one day, and you hear something that’s totally different the next. And this is from experts, experts on both sides of the argument. The vaccines that have been administered within the last six to eight months didn’t go through a 20 or 30-year human trial study that the FDA requires.” On Monday, the Atlanta Falcons announced they were the first NFL team to reach a 100 percent vaccination rate. Still, there are high-profile football players such as Kirk Cousins and Lamar Jackson who remain hesitant about getting...

It’s all but confirmed that Parise, 36, will be donning an Isles sweater when training camp opens next month. Several reports on the first day of free agency last month had the free agent forward signing with the Islanders on a short-term deal. The prospect of Parise coming to Long Island has Islander fans excited. For him, he is also anticipating this being a big year in 2021-22. “I haven’t been this excited heading into a season in a while,” Parise told NHL.com’s Jessi Pierce last night after participating in his state’s summer hockey league, DaBeauty League, for the first time this summer while also not acknowledging who will be playing for. “I’ve been here for a long time and sometimes a change of scenery is good.” ┏┓...

More and more children are testing positive for COVID-19, and some doctors are not only reporting an uptick in cases but more severe illness for kids who contract the virus.  According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 93,824 child COVID-19 cases were reported between July 29 and August 5, with children representing 15% of the weekly reported cases in the U.S. Since July 22, the total number of child COVID-19 cases has jumped 4%. As of August 5, nearly 4.3 million children in the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.  And while severe illness due to COVID-19 is uncommon among children, "there is an urgent need to collect more data on longer-term impacts of the pandemic on children, including ways the virus may harm the long-term physical health of infected children, as well as its emotional and mental health effects," the academy says. Some doctors in Seattle have reported an increase of children with serious illness from COVID-19, urgent care nurse practitioner Justin Gill told CBSN last week. Gill said kids are not...
Former President Donald Trump mocked the US women’s national soccer team after they settled for an Olympic bronze medal earlier this week, specifically taking aim at the “woman with the purple hair.” That woman, Megan Rapinoe scored two goals as the USWNT held off Australia 4-3 to win bronze at the Tokyo Games. Despite being favored to win gold, few athletes will feel shame in winning a bronze medal at the Olympics. But Trump took the third-place finish as an opportunity to ridicule the USWNT for their various social justice messaging in recent years. “If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said in a statement. “Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has.” Rapinoe was asked if she had a rebuttal to Trump’s comments by Jack Doles of Nexstar Media Wire. “It’s a real sad dig into an old bag,” Rapinoe said after first stating she didn’t have a response. “I’m just...

Former HUD Secretary and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson sat down with "Fox & Friends First" Friday to discuss President Biden extending the moratorium on evictions in the wake of a surge of coronavirus cases.  LANDLORD OUT $24,000 IN RENT DUE TO EVICTION MORATORIUM, SAYS TENANTS BUYING BOATS DR. BEN CARSON: My concern is we are a country that is of, for and by the people. And the reason that people came here in the first place is because they didn’t want the heavy foot of government on their neck. Now we have a situation where the government is itself into everything, including the relationships between renters and landlords. And when the moratorium was put in place, we had a very different situation than we have right now, we didn’t have a vaccine. It was really uncharted waters and the last thing we wanted was people out there with this disease raging. The disease is largely under control now. There are lots of jobs available for people. We don’t want to create a permanent underclass that is dependent upon the...

DYING can be a scary thought, but experts say that your every day habits could reveal if you're at a higher risk of losing your life sooner than planned. Doctors say that signs of death can actually start to emerge ten years before your demise. 1Doctors warned that signs of an early death can actually start to show around ten years before your demiseCredit: Getty Writing in the British Medical Journal, experts said that poor physical motor function that gets worse from the age of 65 is associated with an increased risk of death. Researchers looked at seven different functions that might be able to detect if a person would die young. This included daily functions such as cooking, using a toilet, shopping and getting dressed. Other measures were how long it takes to get up from a chair, walking speed and grip strength. The experts explained that early detection in changes to motor function could offer "opportunities for prevention and targeted interventions". It's unclear what said interventions would be as each patient would differ as to what they...
COVID cases are stable but are not plummeting as Government data says, an expert has claimed. Professor Tim Spector heads the ZOE COVID Symptom Study app which has shown a plateauing in symptomatic cases at around 60,000 a day. 4The ZOE Covid Symptom Study app show cases are flatlining at 60,000 per day. It differs from the Government's daily figures, which shows a dramatic drop in the past week to around 30,000 a dayCredit: Zoe COVID Symptom Study app The study tracks the outbreak by using symptoms reported by app users. It shows in the past week, cases have flatlined.  Meanwhile the Government’s figures, which rely on testing, show a drastic decline in cases in the past week. Hopes had been raised that the third wave was starting to end, after seven days of falling case numbers. But Prof Spector, a genetic epidemiologist at King’s College London, said: “It's dropped something like 30 per cent in two days, which is pretty much unheard of in pandemics. “And remember this is happening without restrictions, lockdowns, or some sudden event. “To me...
ROGERS PARK — A rising Lake Michigan and powerful storms caused the loss of Howard Beach in 2019 — and forced the park’s playground to be temporarily removed. The beachfront is still underwater and covered by rocks, but the playground will soon come back to Howard Beach Park, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) announced Monday. Park District crews will begin to reinstall the playground at Howard Beach Park, 7519 N. Eastlake Terrace, this week or next, Hadden said in an email newsletter to residents. The playground equipment was removed in 2019, when city crews performed emergency shoreline stabilization work to fight erosion caused by rising water levels for Lake Michigan. As the city fortified the lakefront, erosion had already caused the loss of the land below the playground, making the facility dangerous and forcing its removal, Hadden said. But with the Rogers Park lakefront now fortified and play areas again open after a coronavirus-caused lockdown, the playground equipment can make its return, Hadden said in an email update to constituents. The decision was made after studying wave patterns and...

Their rationale for expanding the company's product offerings was very... Netflixian. Superficially, Netflix will start offering mobile games to subscribers for no additional charge to add value to the service. Subscribers in the U.S. and Canada declined by 400,000 in the second quarter, a sign the business may be reaching a near-term saturation point. Adding video games may entice new customers while reducing churn. "The success of this initiative is about great games, fundamentally," said Netflix chief operating officer and chief product officer Greg Peters during his company's second-quarter earnings conference call. "We think we can deliver more entertainment value through [games]." But pull back the curtain, and it's clear Netflix chose video games as one of the company's first significant non-video-related business ventures because of two themes: data and intellectual property. Those two concepts are...
