As Daily Kos has continued to cover, Republicans have been more than happy to jump into anti-trans hate as a way to distract people from their failures in office. While some state-level legislation has died in committee, some has made its way through both the statehouse and senate and made it all the way to the governor—and some, sadly, has even been signed into law by Republicans. One example comes to us from Tennessee, where Republican Governor Bill Lee signed a discriminatory anti-trans sports bill into law in March 2021, which is also when it went into effect. With the help of Lambda Legal and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), however, one brave openly trans teen is suing for his right to play sports with the team that matches his gender identity, as reported by NBC News. In a news release, 14-year-old Luc Esquivel, a trans boy who wanted to try out for the boys’ golf team at Farragut High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, said he was “crushed” by the legislation. “I just want to play,” the high school freshman added. “Like...

EXCLUSIVE: A pastor from Manitoba, Canada, who was arrested earlier this week tells Fox News he spent an extra night in prison after refusing a release condition that effectively required him to stop preaching at his church services.Pastor Tobias Tissen of Steinbach, Manitoba, was imprisoned for two days after being arrested for a warrant issued in May related to a provincial public health order banning outdoor gatherings of more than five people. Tissen told Fox News that his bail hearing, at first scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed after he refused the initial conditions of his release. "They had these conditions that I wasn't allowed to attend any gatherings that were in contravention of COVID-19," Tissen said. "And that would automatically prohibit me from going to church and preaching. And I could not agree with that." ‘Without incident’Tissen had been in hiding for months before his arrest Monday, for some time only making public appearances at his Church of God Restoration in Steinbach, Manitoba, which is about an hour's drive north of the Minnesota border. He said: “Normally I don’t get involved in the Under-21s but I think he’s beyond that. “I want to take a little bit more control of his development internationally.” The United striker was expected to return to the international fold after being sent home in disgrace from England duty in September 2020. The youngster broke Covid rules by inviting girls back to his hotel room while away in Iceland. He said at the time: "Having now had the chance to reflect on what’s happened, I can only apologise to everyone for the embarrassment I have caused. Tesla Model S Plaid caught fire while driver was at the wheel, says fire chief Biggest Boomtowns in Every State After many years of inertia, NASCAR's franchising model is finally beginning to take on the intended effect, and "charters" in the NASCAR Cup Series are becoming enormously sought-after. The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, has said it only took him a few weeks to realize enforcing coronavirus restrictions was doing more harm than good in his state and wishes he'd have acted sooner. Speaking to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, DeSantis, who is a Republican, explained that he felt the extreme restrictions were not particularly effective with many other states simply 'blindly' following the advice of the nation's top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci.  'If I had more data, I would have had the ability to say, 'Wait a minute. Why would we need to close a gym for two weeks?' he asked. 'These are younger people going to work out. If you're healthy, you're going to end up dealing with the virus better.''  Florida has taken heavy criticism for DeSantis' more relaxed approach to social and business restrictions in the pandemic 'And so I think that it took me a few weeks, March and into April, to get enough data to say, 'Okay, we're not doing Faucism, we're going to make sure our states open,'' he...
Prince Philip will be laid to rest in a lead-lined English oak coffin made for him more than 30 years ago along with a matching casket for the Queen and the Royal Family will wear masks during the funeral, it was revealed today. The Duke of Edinburgh will be borne to St George's Chapel in Windsor in the back of his self-designed hearse, one of two 'open top' hybrid Land Rovers developed with the help of the Army.  Despite his eco-friendly and slightly eccentric arrival at church, Philip will be in a traditional English oak coffin made decades ago along with one for his wife the Queen.  The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral has been massively scaled back because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with only 30 guests allowed and all required to wear masks.  It is usual for British royals to be laid to rest in lead-lined coffins because they keep out moisture and preserve the body for longer. Princess Diana's was so heavily lined it weighed a quarter of a tonne. Philip will one day be buried with his wife in...
Piers Morgan has praised his friend Sharon Osbourne for defending his right to an opinion even at the cost of her job, accusing CBS of 'hypocrisy' for forcing her out as co-host of The Talk. Morgan, the Editor-at-Large of DailyMail.com, spoke out on Monday in his first sit-down interview since being forced to leave Good Morning Britain, calling Osbourne's ouster 'even more disconcerting' than his own. 'I thought it took enormous courage by Sharon in the middle of my firestorm... Sharon went on Twitter immediately, within one hour of the news breaking that I'd gone and defended me and my right to have an opinion,' Morgan told Tucker Carlson on the Fox News host's new online series for Fox Nation.  'She didn't agree with everything I've said. She was already on the record from the day before as saying she disagreed with me about a lot of things,' Morgan said. 'But, when it really mattered, when the chips were down for me, she was there, she was a loyal friend. And my God has she paid for that loyalty.'  Piers...

Cornerback Kevin King is staying with the Green Bay Packers after agreeing to a one-year deal worth $6 million. King’s agent, Chad Speck, confirmed the agreement on Tuesday. ESPN and NFL Network first reported the deal. The move enables the Packers to keep both their starting cornerbacks from last season with Pro Bowl selection Jaire Alexander entrenched at the other spot. King, who turns 26 on May 5, has made 36 starts in his four-year career and 25 over the last two seasons. The Packers drafted him in the second round with the 33rd overall pick in 2017. He had a tough performance in the Packers’ 31-26 NFC championship game loss to Tampa Bay. King appeared to have pass coverage on two of Tampa Bay’s touchdowns, including Scotty Miller’s 39-yarder with 1 second left in the first half. King also was called for a pass interference penalty late in the fourth quarter that helped the Bucs run out the clock. But he’s been a pretty steady contributor to the Packers’ secondary since coming to Green Bay. The Packers would...

It’s on us now!” Deutsch said. “I mean, he’s a lame duck. It’s over. He lost. We have to kind of stop to say — it’s an hour and 20 minutes into the show and … it’s the first time … the name Joe Biden was mentioned. Enough with Donald Trump already. He’s done. He lost. And we, the media, have to be a bit disciplined and not continue to just cover this jerk every time there’s this flatulence. I mean, enough already. He lost, it’s done! We are guilty of keeping him front and center all the time.” Deutsch went on to argue that since Trump will, as of Jan. 20, no longer be...
LUIS SUAREZ reportedly wanted a new four-year contract at Barcelona, keeping him at club until he was 37, before he was brutally axed. The former Liverpool striker, 33, was given the boot at the Nou Camp in the summer after five seasons, 15 trophies and close to 200 goals. 2Suarez wanted a four-year contract extension at Barcelona before his exitCredit: EPA Suarez was left furious at the manner of his departure and has since joined LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid. The Uruguayan striker was informed of his exit by new boss Ronald Koeman in a one-minute phone-call. And now, Spanish outlet TV3 have claimed Suarez was sold after demanding a new FOUR-YEAR contract, which would have kept him at the club until the age of 37. Suarez had one-year left to run on his Barcelona deal going into the summer. But after a nasty knee injury sidelined him for a chunk of 2019-20, Barca didn't want to risk being lumbered with him for another four years. With the club badly affected financially by the coronavirus pandemic, they didn't feel Suarez's demands...
Penn State will be without several weapons when it takes on No. 3 Ohio State in Beaver Stadium on Saturday. The 18th-ranked Nittany Lions will not only be without linebacker Micah Parsons, who opted out for the season, but also running backs Noah Cain and Journey Brown. Cain, a true sophomore, suffered an unspecified injury to his left leg after just three carries in Penn State’s season-opening loss to Indiana. Penn State coach James Franklin broke the news on Tuesday that Cain — coming off a season of 443 rushing yards and eight touchdowns — would miss the remainder of the season because of the injury: “Love Noah, so much respect for Noah,” Franklin told reporters. “He really had an unbelievable offseason and worked really hard for this opportunity.” MORE: Why did Micah Parsons opt out? Brown, on the other hand, has been ruled out for most — if not all — of the 2020 season since before it began. The redshirt junior, tabbed as one of the top returning backs in the Big Ten, seemed primed for stardom...
You will play as much of a role in play-calling as Nick Saban during Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia showdown. Expected to be absent from the sidelines during the battle between the SEC’s top two teams after testing positive for COVID-19, Saban is frustrated that he will not be permitted to communicate with his staff during the game, as he has been remotely during practices this week. Saban is currently asymptomatic and isolating at home. “If you’re the head coach, there ought to be a better way to do it,” Saban said on his radio show on Thursday. “I don’t know exactly what that is, but there should be a better way to do that. You ought to be able to have some communication with the sidelines just like I have communication with somebody on the field during practice. “I can’t directly talk to a player, but I can say, ‘Tell 22 that he was supposed to reroute the guy,’ or whatever. You can’t have any of that, and that doesn’t seem quite right.” Coaches are allowed to talk with staff on...

The firm's chief equity market strategist reveals there are two market risks keeping him up at night. His first concern surrounds the presidential election and whether Democrats will get control of both the White House and Congress. "What might fiscal policy regime change look like, if at all, come next year?" Orlando told CNBC's "Trading Nation" on Friday. In a blue wave situation, Orlando believes Joe Biden's tax policies would likely get passed and put pressure on corporations and individual Americans.  He's also worried about the trajectory of coronavirus infections and deaths. "We've already seen two spikes: The one that peaked in the middle of April, [and] the one that peaked in the middle of July. A lot of us are bracing for a third spike now that colleges are back in session," Orlando said. "But to some degree it may be mitigated if we can continue to make good vaccine progress." His base...

"They're not Black Lives Matter, they're people with a range of issues and they're happy to jump onto whichever one," he said.  But he also defended the Portland police's use of tear gas, which has been criticized as excessive, and the arrests of protesters by unidentified local and federal agents. According to ESPN, Grant took five questions from reporters. And in each of his answers, he made a quick statement about his teammates before coming back to Taylor. “It’s great to be here with my teammates, great to be back playing basketball, but for me personally, and I think a lot of players, it’s imperative that we focus on what is really important in the world,” Grant said. “One thing for me is Breonna Taylor’s killers are still roaming around free, so I want to focus on that with these interviews and things like that. Getty Chicago Bears WR Anthony Miller Fans of the Chicago Bears have been waiting for wide receiver Anthony Miller to break out. The talented wideout will be entering his third year in the league, and after showing glimpses of potential throughout his first two seasons, many think this will be the year. Others wonder whether Miller would have already broken out had he been working with a different quarterback. The Draft Network’s Benjamin Solak recently examined Miller’s play in great detail, from his separation and release to the way he runs deep routes. Solak points out Miller’s faults: he sometimes runs routs a bit differently than he should, his YAC isn’t the greatest, and he has had a few costly drops — as well as some costly penalties. But Solak suggests that while the third-year receiver has room for improvement, his learning curve could have absolutely been helped by more consistent quarterback play.
