By Dave Pehling SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — The Bay Area’s own thrash-metal equivalent of Gwar, long-running bloody hooded cannibal rockers Ghoul bring their theatrical shenanigans to the Great American Music Hall on Friday. READ MORE: Driver Killed in Head-On Crash on Vasco Road Near Byron; 2 Others InjuredFounded in 2001 by singer and guitarist Digestor (who may or may not in actuality be Sean McGrath, veteran guitarist/vocalist of iconic Oakland death metal band Impaled), Ghoul has crafted a preposterous mythology that is just as entertaining as the quartet’s humorous, gore-spattered thrash. Claiming to hail from the mythical Eastern European country of Creepsylvania, the group is equally inspired by metal icons like Exodus and Slayer and campy horror flicks. Joined longtime bassist Cremator (aka Ross Sewage of death metal acts Exhumed and Impaled), the early line-up of Ghoul built a reputation for hectic riffs, over-the-top lyrics and hilarious, heavily-accented stage banter during live performances. Initial efforts We Came for the Dead! and Maniaxe showcased the band’s thrash/death metal roots, but also revealed their ability to branch out with the post-apocalyptic parody of the...
By Dave Pehling SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Three legendary the thrash-metal bands who survived catching COVID on tour together last year bring their “The Bay Strikes Back” show to Oakland as Testament, Exodus and Death Angel share the Fox Theater stage Saturday. READ MORE: Long Lines At Bay Area Test Sites To Ensure Safe, COVID-Free Thanksgiving GatheringsIt was during the European leg of The Bay Strikes Back Tour in February and March of 2020 when members of all three bands and their crews were exposed to the coronavirus, with many testing positive upon their return and Death Angel drummer Will Carroll ending up hospitalized during a terrifying brush with mortality. While Carroll has successfully recovered and played several live and livestreamed shows with the band in the year and a half since, COVID is still having an impact on all three bands’ touring plans. The delta variant surge led the planned North American leg of The Bay Strikes Back Tour to be postponed until next spring, though all three groups performed at Aftershock 2021 in Sacramento last month. Scott Kinkade Death metal outfit Dying Fetus headlines a stacked weekday show in Ybor, and there’s no better place to experience the genre than Orpheum. The Maryland band formed in the early-‘90s, but now John Gallagher (guitar and vocals) is the only original member still involved. Doors are at 6 p.m., so there’s plenty of time to pack in the openers which include Los Angeles hardcore act Terror, Vitriol out of Portland and Columbus, Ohio’s Sanguisugabogg. (I’m going to need help with that pronunciation.) The tragedy also cut off the power to the local community for several hours. Local police said that residents reported the power in the area being knocked out at about 8.30am - which is believed to have been the time that young Adrian was electrocuted. While home alone, he went outside to play with his kite in a nearby field. However, he was using a homemade kite fashioned out of metal wire wrapped in nylon coating, which is normally used on electric fences to keep livestock contained, reported Guaxupe. At about 11am, one of the boy's brothers arrived...
Deicide, which plays Orpheum in Ybor City, Florida on Aug. 5, 2021.Century Media Records Death metal giant Deicide plays a hometown show in Ybor City which knows founding members drummer Steve Asheim and bassist-vocalist Glen Benton—the last two original members from the late-’80s inception—well. Denton was in hot water in 2018 over a homophobic slur he used in a spat with Slipnot's Corey Taylor, but has since called the incident a learning experience. It’s been two years since the controversial band has played the Ybor venue—and three years since the release of a new album—so expect a greatest hits show with a lot of blasphemy and buddying up to Satan (our kind of Thursday). The homeless woman who was living out of a tent on the Upper West Side was busted last month on felony charges in the murder of a teen in the South Street Seaport, The Post has learned. Amber Wilson, 35, made headlines this week for taking up residence inside the tent at West 86th Street and Broadway with partner Devonte Rose — a set-up that was dismantled by cops Wednesday afternoon amid complaints from neighbors. But sources told The Post that wasn’t the first time Wilson landed in the news. Just weeks prior, Wilson was charged with concealing a human corpse after 19-year-old Rosalee Sanchez’s body was found wrapped in plastic in the abandoned Fulton Fish Market on March 6, the sources said. Two other vagrants, Austin Boehm, 25, and Christian Mercado, 20, were also charged in connection with Sanchez’s murder. Police officers who responded to an Indiana couple's farm in May 2014 for a report of a man who had possibly been killed by the family dog were told by his ex-wife that they could search anywhere on the property, except for a large metal toolbox with a padlock on it.  When cops later opened the box, they discovered the naked, decomposing body of 62-year-old Ray Green riddled with 10 bullets. The family's pet German Shepherd, Jazzy, was nowhere to be found.  Green's wife, then-42-year-old Danielle 'Dani' Green, a skilled shooter and equestrian, was later convicted of his murder after a jury rejected her claim of self-defense. She is currently serving a 60-year prison sentence.  Danielle 'Dani' Green, a piano teacher and equestrian, in May 2014 claimed that her ex-husband, Ray Green, had been killed by her German Shepherd, Jazzy (pictured together)   Two days after Memorial Day in 2014, Ray's decomposing body riddled with 10 bullets was found inside his padlocked toolbox on the family's property in Indiana  Dani (pictured in her mugshot, left) was charged...

I like to think of myself as worldly enough to appreciate all kinds of music, but I draw the line at heavy metal. Not all of it — Heavy Metal magazine is a sci-fi institution, and ’80s hair metal and spandexed goons should be cherished — but definitely the guttural, headbanging shit. No offense to the fans of thrash metal, folk metal, death metal, gothic metal, doom metal, industrial metal, grindcore, power metal, speed metal and, of course, the German wave of Neue Deutsche Härte: My stoner ears just aren't that hard-core. But my lungs are darker than any music could be, so what are a few nugs of a strain named Hardcore OG going to do? After smoking a joint of Hardcore OG on an empty stomach, I've learned that when it comes to weed, as with music, toilet paper and porn, I'm more of a soft-core guy. Named as a clear warning for those about to partake, Hardcore OG (occasionally known simply as Hardcore) is one of the few strains that takes dabbers for a magic carpet ride...

A new Rorschach series from Batman writer Tom King isn’t the only connection between Batman and Watchmen any more. And I’m not talking about Doomsday Clock, the DC Comics/Watchmen crossover. Dark Nights: Death Metal, the even more gonzo sequel to the gonzo Dark Nights: Metal, has found its very own way to bring Doctor Manhattan into the conversation. And it all starts with the Nightmare Batmen. [Ed. note: This piece contains spoilers for Dark Nights: Death Metal #2.] Image: Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo/DC Comics If seven Nightmare Batmen was a crowd in Dark Nights: Metal, Death Metal has expanded the roster of evil Batmans to the point of ridiculousness. The first time around, every Batman got their own intro and even a member of the Justice League as their nemesis. In the sequel series, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are treating them as fully disposable, even fodder for jokes. Take, for example, the Batom, a shrinking Batman who disguises himself as a lizard and is accidentally executed on...
