EDDIE HOWE admitted rock-bottom Newcastle will struggle to attract players in January. The mega rich Saudi-owned Magpies desperately need reinforcements to avoid relegation. 1Eddie Howe is worried Newcastle's precarious Premier League status may deter players from signing in JanuaryCredit: Getty Howe will be given around £50million to spend, but, six points off safety, he knows how hard it will be to land signings without an immediate upturn. Toon’s new boss dismissed talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor’s claim that 'players don’t want to live in Newcastle….they want to be close to London'. But he said: “I’ve heard from everyone how nice the area is to live in. “We’ll have no problem attracting players to Newcastle for a whole host of reasons. I don’t think that’s going to be an issue. “What is an issue is our league position in attracting players in January. “It’s very difficult to make any promises in the sense that we will definitely spend money and sign players. Only half the players from the 2019 Stanley Cup championship run remain with the St. Louis Blues, a product of back-to-back first-round exits and the salary cap. Turnover is part of the NHL, and the fact that Vladimir Tarasenko is still around is just as surprising as all the changes. He’s back in a Blues uniform after asking for a trade during the offseason. “As long as I play on the Blues, I will work hard and play for a win,” Tarasenko said. “I don’t want to be a distraction in the room. I’m here to work. I’m healthy. I’m happy to play hockey again.” With a blue line almost unrecognizable from the franchise’s first title-winning group and more than a few new faces, St. Louis will need Tarasenko to produce to compete in the deep Central Division. A 30-goal scorer five years in a row, Tarasenko scored seven combined the past two seasons while battling shoulder injuries. General manager Doug Armstrong has made a number of roster changes since hosting the Stanley Cup, most recently signing two-time champion Brandon...
(CNN)When the new NBA season begins October 19, players will not have to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to play, a source with knowledge of negotiations between the league and the players' union told CNN on Tuesday. The source told CNN that unless something completely unforeseen happens during the talks over health and safety protocols, mandated Covid-19 vaccinations will not happen. ESPN was the first to report on this development. CNN has reached out to the NBA and the union, the National Basketball Players Association, for comment but has not heard back. No major professional sports league in the United States has required its players to be vaccinated. Read MoreBlack, Hispanic people miss out on Covid-19 testing and vaccinationsBut the NBA, like other professional sports leagues, has required coaches, game-day personnel and referees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19. According to the source, approximately 85% of the players in the 30-team league are fully vaccinated. Each team can have 15 players on its roster during the regular season. Earlier this month, the NBA warned three teams, the New York Knicks, Brooklyn...

Pokemon Go Fest 2021 is almost upon us, and trainers should already start preparing for the July 17 and 18 weekend extravaganza. Niantic’s flagship event comes once a year and usually features the debut of several shiny variants, a new feature or two, and plenty of fun for participants. Similar to last year, players all over the globe can take part though they should abide by local health guidelines because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In some areas, high vaccination rates, low case numbers and approval by city governments mean that in-person Go Fest gatherings called City Activations will make the day more special for participants. It’s a lot to juggle going into Go Fest with that in mind, here’s a guide to get you ready for Pokemon Go Fest 2021. This will cover common-sense tips. It's the one term that appears to separate amateurism at the college level sports and professional leagues. On Monday, the Supreme Court sided with student-athletes when it affirmed lower court rulings that antitrust law prevented the NCAA from restricting payments to athletes for items related to the benefit of their education, including compensation for internships. The case was initially brought by Shawne Alston, a former West Virginia running back, and other student-athletes. And essentially, the ruling means the NCAA can no longer regulate reimbursable items that student-athletes get. Meanwhile, schools will need to decide what is reimbursable under educational benefits. Attorney Irwin Kishner called the ruling an additional "erosion of the NCAA's monopoly of collegiate and amateur sports." And with states ready to enforce players being compensated for...
Three players the Islanders will need to step up against the Penguins to ensure success Rob Taub May 13, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditFor any player participating in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the new season provides a second chance not only to write the wrongs of the regular season but also show the type of metal they possess. The Islanders know all to well about this. In their 2019 first round sweep of the Pittsburgh Penguins — the team they will also be up against in the first round of these playoffs starting Sunday — they witnessed Jordan Eberle have a phenomenal showing (six points in four games) after a so-so performance over the 82-game slate. Eberle did get hot towards the end of the year and it translated into the postseason, which changed the course of the series and gave the Islanders’ a significant advantage. Last year in the bubble it was Anthony Beauvillier, who was a bolt of lightning in the qualifying matchup against Florida and the first round beating of the Washington Capitals....
In plain terms, the Oakland A’s have been successful over the last three years. But no one in the organization or on the roster will be happy with what the core has accomplished yet. Three consecutive trips to the postseason is a mark of success; a few Major League Baseball teams who’ve toiled in the bottom of the barrel of late would be pleased at those results. But the A’s want more — what team wouldn’t who’s flirted with an extended postseason enough times and fallen short each time? A successful season won’t be one unless the A’s can at least get beyond the American League Division Series and, yes, make the World Series. Why that series in particular? The A’s haven’t won a championship series game since 1992, when they took two games in a 4-2 series loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2020, their wild card victory over the Chicago White Sox was their first postseason series win since 2006, when they swept the Minnesota Twins in the ALDS only to be swept by the...
HARRY MAGUIRE reckons people are misguided if they think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is too much of a Mr Nice Guy. There is a perception among some outside the club that boss Solskjaer does not have the tough edge to drive Manchester United back to the top. 2Harry Maguire has revealed Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can be toughCredit: Getty But captain Maguire claims that is simply not the case. The England centre-back, 28, said: “I feel he’s done brilliantly — he’s very cool and calm. “But he’s also got the side of him where he can turn when he needs to and when the players need a little telling-off.” Solskjaer made Maguire captain in January last year after Ashley Young’s departure to Inter Milan and the pair have a good relationship as they plot a course for United to get back to winning trophies. Maguire explained: “We’re close. We speak a lot before training and before games. “I give my ideas to him on how I feel the group is and the mentality of the team. “Also what we...
The WNBA and the Players' Association have agreed to an opt-in process for this season's draft, the league confirmed to The Associated Press on Sunday night. Every eligible player who would like to make themselves available for the draft, which is expected to be held in April, must renounce their remaining intercollegiate eligibility. A player who wishes to opt-in must email the league no later than April 1. If a player is competing in the Final Four, the player has up to 48 hours after her last game finishes to let the league know if she plans on entering the draft. In the past, players who have run out of college eligibility are automatically entered into the draft. This became more of an issue this season when all the players were granted an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA because of the coronavirus pandemic. New Brighton signing Moises Caicedo is one of those few people who can look back on 2020 with immense pleasure. Caicedo hurdled every obstacle in style last year. He looked instantly at home first in domestic football, then in South America’s Champions League and then as a senior international. He had thought of himself as primarily a defensive...
The game’s launch guide noted that Steam players would have to purchase an additional Access Pass. Great news for fans of the Hitman saga playing on PC. As you well know, Hitman 3 hits stores this week, and the closing for the latest Agent 47 trilogy allows import the scenarios and content of the two previous games if you own them, as happened with Hitman 2. Although this on Xbox or PlayStation is as simple as buying Hitman 3 and downloading the previous ones, on PC it’s more complicated, since this third installment leaves Steam to be published exclusively on the Epic Games Store. Players will not have to re-purchase the IO Interactive gamesThe point is that the game’s launch guide noted that PC players would have to buy Hitman 2 again to access its content from Hitman 3, given that the sequel was originally published on Steam. This in opposition to the promises of the study in August, which pointed to problems with the platform or communication. But in IO Interactive They are always attentive to their community,...
CHICAGO (CBS) — Bears general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy will be sticking around for at least one more season, despite another quick playoff exit and more questionable personnel moves. Calling the two “outstanding leaders,” team Chairman George McCaskey made it official Wednesday morning, saying the decision came after “candid and constructive” meetings with Pace and Nagy over the course of the season, and after the Bears lost in the first round of the playoffs, coming off an 8-8 season. “I was impressed with both of them this past season, especially during the six-game losing streak. The fact that our players never gave up is a tribute to the players. It is also indicative of the type of players that Ryan acquired and to the players’ regard for Matt as their head coach,” McCaskey said. McCaskey and Bears president and CEO Ted Phillips said they understand the frustration Bears fans feel after back-to-back 8-8 seasons, and only two playoff appearances since 2010, but they said they still believe Pace and Nagy are the best people to lead...

Bengaluru FC haven’t got off to an ideal start in the Indian Super League (ISL). They’ve played out two consecutive draws, with the latest one a boring goalless affair against Hyderabad FC. They could not muster a single shot on target and coach Carles Cuadrat is aware that they need to improve in attack.  Ahead of a crucial match against arch-rivals Chennaiyin FC, the Spanish manager is confident that his team will bounce back.  “The opposition is not creating many chances against us. But we have to improve on some aspects. The problem is we are not winning many duels in the attacking third. We are lacking the last pass. We are showing consistency. We showed how we want to play. But we are not making it count. I think we will shift the momentum after the next game and be the protagonist,” he stated.  He felt that team still has to mature physically and mentally and as the season goes on, their game will also improve.  “We need to improve our scoring chances. The game against FC Goa (2-2 draw) was very...
The Chicago Cubs might lose some major contributors in 2020. The Chicago Cubs made the playoffs in David Ross’ first year as manager, but an embarrassing loss against the Miami Marlins in the postseason stands as more proof that this roster needs a serious facelift as the dead weight from the last two down seasons are jettisoned. The Cubs will need to rework the roster again if they want to contend in arguably the toughest division in the league, and that reworking might mean letting these three free agents go rather than giving in to the urge to keep the band together after a somewhat successful 2020 season.3. 2B Jason KipnisKipnis was signed as a veteran Band-Aid in a Cubs middle infield that went from a position of strength to leaking coolant over the span of a few years. Kipnis showed that his glory days in Cleveland are firmly in the past, as his .237 average and three home runs did little to help the hometown hero win many supporters in the hearts of fans. Chicago will likely go younger...
Next1 of 5Prev postUse your ← → (arrows) to browse The Yankees don’t need a roster overhaul this summer to become World Series favorites. Instead, New York just needs to add some talent in free agency. The 2020 season was a failure for the Yankees since they were unable to end the franchise’s World Series drought. That doesn’t mean New York was all that far away from being the best team in baseball. There’s no real shame in falling one game short against the Rays. As such, Brian Cashman won’t be required to perform massive roster surgery this offseason. The Yankees have the bones of a championship team. New York’s front office does, however, need to do some good work in free agency if they want to give Aaron Boone enough talent to be called World Series favorites heading into the 2021 campaign. Bringing back some of the team’s own free agents like D.J. LeMahieu and Masahiro Tanaka will be high up on Cashman’s to-do list, but the team also needs to add some new blood to the roster. Here...
Saying they're tired of 'empty gestures' in the fight for racial equality, Miami Dolphins players released a video announcing they will remain in the locker room for both the 'The Star-Spangled Banner' and 'Lift Every Voice and Sing' anthems prior to the team's season opener in New England on Sunday.  Similarly, the Houston Texans stayed off the field for both songs before Thursday night's NFL season opener in Kansas City. League stadiums are playing 'Lift Every Voice and Sing,' considered by many to be the 'black national anthem,' before each Week 1 game of the new season following commissioner Roger Goodell's admission in May that the NFL should have listened sooner to players' concerns about racism.   The Dolphins' video, which was released by ESPN's Jay Williams on Thursday, shows head coach Brian Flores and 18 of his players demanding action and disparaging what they see as symbolic actions and ineffective demonstrations. 'This attempt to unify only creates more divide,' several Dolphins players said in the edited video. 'So we'll skip this song and dance, and as a team we'll stay inside.' ...

Since 2009, Blizzard has allowed players to change their World of Warcraft character’s gender — if they were willing to pay $15 for the privilege. But 11 years later, Blizzard feels that “it’s not the right message” to ask players to pay to change the gender of their character. The company is planning to remove this long-standing charge, and Blizzard now tells The News Brig you won’t even have to pay $40 for the upcoming Shadowlands expansion to swap genders. John Hight, the executive producer for Shadowlands, told Eurogamer in a recent interview that the expansion will let you gender swap for free using the in-game barbershop, which was previously used to change other physical appearances for your avatar, including facial features and hairstyle. In an interview with Eurogamer, Blizzard revealed that the next expansion would remove the fee required to change your character’s gender, hinting that players need to buy Shadowlands to access it in addition to new skin tones and ethnicities for World of Warcraft’s human characters. Blizzard originally suggested this wasn’t something that could...

If you play Forza Horizon or Forza Motorsport, you have some freedom to personalize cars in the game, even adding your own custom designs. One popular example: players have used the feature to recreate the General Lee, the 1969 Dodge Charger from The Dukes of Hazzard, in almost every single Forza game since at least 2007. But the General Lee famously includes the controversial confederate flag on its back — and Microsoft has just announced it will ban players who use that symbol (among others) in the game. In a statement posted on Twitter last Friday, Microsoft updated its enforcement guidelines to have a zero-tolerance policy for any player using the confederate flag or other symbols that represent “notorious iconography,” including Nazi imagery and the rising sun, which can be a symbol of Japanese imperialism. Microsoft will not automatically ban players that create designs with these controversial images; instead, the original designer will need to be reported by submitting a ticket. While some players have noticed the ban, it hasn’t sparked a significant backlash yet. Besides, if you want...
Let’s be honest. Stephen A. Smith is right: “Somebody’s gotta say it.” The idea of NBA players spending up to three months at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., is absurd on multiple levels as the league attempts to restart its 2019-20 season and eventually crown a champion amid the COVIC-19 pandemic. Not the least of which is the fact that some players won’t be able to physically be around anybody other than teammates and team personnel for four weeks. “Physically” is a key word considering NBA players are living, breathing human beings who will be apart from the significant others with whom they typically engage in “recreational activities.” And by that we mean sex. MORE: Complete schedule for NBA’s restart “Do we really think the recreational activities, what these guys are accustomed to, are going to be compromised for three months?” Smith asked on Tuesday’s edition of “First Take” on ESPN. “You really think that people are going to be without their wives or their woman? … You really think they’re honoring a bubble for three months?” Smith later clarified that even a...
MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Premier League players will not need to wear face masks arriving at stadiums, in dressing rooms or on the substitutes’ bench when the competition’s 100-day coronavirus shutdown ends next week. Clubs agreed Thursday on matchday protocols that include splitting stadiums into red, amber and green zones to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Games will be played without fans so access to stadiums will be limited to around 300 people who will have their temperatures checked on arrival. The season is scheduled to resume on Wednesday with Aston Villa hosting Sheffield United and Arsenal playing at Manchester City. Only 110 people will be allowed in the red zone around the field of play, and will be required to have returned a negative COVID-19 test in the previous five days as part of a medical passport that will see a bar code scanned before they can enter. They include players, coaches, medical staff, match officials, pitch technicians and Hawk-eye personnel for goal-line and video replay technology. A familiar sight since the Bundesliga resumed last month...
