A college basketball coach does not reach 900 victories without a lot of losing. Roy Williams walked away from the bench on the losing side 260 times, including in the NCAA championship game, on the brink of the Final Four and 56 percent of the time when he’s led the North Carolina Tar Heels into competition against Duke. We mention this not to undermine Williams’ impending achievement, but to underscore how much sacrifice goes into the milestone he will reach the next time North Carolina wins, the first opportunity coming in an impromptu Wednesday non-league home game against Marquette. There are all the hours, the energy, the time away from family. There is the criticism that must be endured, the crises that must be confronted, the problems that must be solved. There are the impossible decisions, such as: Do I go home to coach at my alma mater even...
Good perspectives on the oil price for this 2021. In recent days there has been a general increase in the forecasts that various firms such as Bank of America (BofA), Goldman Sachs or Morgan Stanley They do about ‘black gold’. In fact, oil has won the favor of experts, who now believe that it can reach $ 70 throughout the year. “Prices have been ahead of our expectations,” say BofA’s commodity strategists, who have raised their forecast on the average price of a barrel of Brent type, the benchmark in Europe, for this year. They believe it will be around $ 60, up from the previous estimate of $ 50. And they add: “Also we believe prices could temporarily rise to $ 70 in the second quarter of 2021“. Why is this improvement? Very easy. Bank of America says that the change in expectations is closely related to the...

In 2000, his unstoppable run of form saw him land the US Open, the PGA Championship and the British Open. The following year, he won the Masters yet again, becoming the only player to win four consecutive majors, dubbed the “Tiger slam”.  In 2006, he dedicated his victory at the British Open to his father Earl, who had died just a few months before. Here’s what has to happen for Michigan State to make the NCAA Tournament. The clock is officially starting to run out for Michigan State, which enters this week at just 11-9 overall and 5-9 in Big Ten play. Those numbers, combined with a NET ranking of 81 entering tonight’s game with Illinois, explain why the Spartans aren’t even on the bubble right now. The good news for Tom Izzo’s team is the Big Ten did the Spartans a solid with their rescheduled games from an earlier COVID pause. Games against Illinois and Michigan have been added to Michigan State’s schedule, providing some solid opportunities for the Spartans to rack up some quality wins. Right now the biggest roadblock for Michigan State is an abysmal performance against Quadrant 1 foes, with the Spartans going just 2-8 in ten opportunities against them. A third Quad 1 win fell off the board when Rutgers...
March is almost here, which means the 2021 NCAA Tournament is just around the corner.  Well, hopefully. The NCAA is doing what it can to reduce the risk of COVID-19 playing havoc with the tournament — setting the entire event in the state of Indiana — but there’s only so much that can be done. Hopefully they’ll play games without delays and interruptions, but more importantly hopefully everyone stays safe. Assuming everything stays on track, Selection Sunday is March 14. Let’s jump back into the NCAA Tournament projections game, with our first Field of 68 projection of the season.  As always, Sporting News’ Field of 68 projections are based on where teams should be seeded based on how their resumes compare, if the season ended yesterday. Because we’re still a few weeks from Selection Sunday, I’m not as concerned with regions and bracketing principles; if your team has an 8-seed resume relative...

by Edward Ring  If you want to find a Libertarian Party organization that has achieved relevance, look no further than Georgia. That’s where Shane Hazel, running for the U.S. Senate as a Libertarian, garnered 2.3 percent of the vote in November. Hazel’s showing may have been insignificant, but the Republican candidate, David Perdue, only needed 0.3 percent more votes to have avoided a runoff, where he lost. America’s political system today, with rare exceptions, is a two party system. All that Perdue needed was for one in seven of Hazel’s voters to choose him instead, and the GOP would still control the U.S. Senate. In a two party system, it doesn’t take much to be relevant. Hazel now intends to run as a Libertarian for governor in Georgia in 2022. Libertarians, to their credit, do not operate with the same level of lies and hatred as leftist Democrats. They also...
You will tell me that Michael Lorensen is good at everything, but not the best at anything, you should not be wrong. Reds reliever Shoaib Othani wants to be a part of his team’s rotation when playing outfield and will be a backup hitter between starts. Realistic? Maybe because he’s a talented athlete, but can the Reds ’system give him all of this latitude? That’s another story. Yes, the loss of Trevor Boyer leaves a gap at the heart of the cycle in Cincinnati, but is Lorensen the solution? At best, he can take on the role of a fifth starter. His goals as a member of the spin are very clear, and he wants to play 180 innings. Lawrence did not want to force the hand of his manager David Bell. By looking at his role this way, he wants to give him more chances while at the same...

“If you ask me, is the best to continue for another five years,” said the mayor in reference to the prime minister, who must face tough elections on March 23, the fourth in less than two years. It is not the only Arab support Netanyahu has garnered in recent days. Before Salam, a prominent Arab lawmaker, Mansour Abbas of the Ra’am party, also spoke in favor of Netanyahu. In fact, after making the announcement, Ra’am’s party separated from the Arab Joint List, the coalition that, in the last elections, in March 2020, had been third with 15 seats in the Knesset. That gave them an idea of how much money they could spend in upgrading the starting rotation and the bullpen. Now, after adding starters like Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon and reliever Darren O’Day, the New York Yankees cemented their place as the favorites to win the division title in the American League East. Now, Tampa lost two crucial starters in Charlie Morton and...
PECOTA projections have the New York Mets winning the East By: Andres Chavez February 9, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditEven though the New York Mets failed to sign any of the “big three” free agents – catcher JT Realmuto, pitcher Trevor Bauer, and center fielder George Springer – they have greatly improved their team and are now the favorites to win the National League East division in 2021. Baseball Prospectus, more specifically its projections system PECOTA, is also adhering to this thinking. PECOTA...
