The anonymous leader of QAnon, known simply as “Q,” has been blamed for coming up with right-wing conspiracies and encouraging its followers to commit acts of violence like storming the Capitol building Jan. 6. However, Q hasn’t posted in three months. QAnon, a loosely connected group of people that believe an elite ring of cannibalistic pedophiles are running a worldwide sex trafficking ring and were plotting against former President Donald Trump while in office, came under increased scrutiny following the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. (RELATED: Majority Of Americans See QAnon Conspiracy Theory As ‘Very Bad’ For The Country) “Followers of the movement participated in the deadly Capitol riot in January, and other QAnon believers have been charged with violent crimes, including kidnappings, assassination plots and the 2019 murder of a mafia boss in New York,” the New York Times reported. A growing number of Manhattan landlords have been pulling apartments off the market to avoid renting them at lower rates due to the coronavirus pandemic, new data indicates. According to the real estate data analysis company UrbanDigs, in February alone building owners removed 1,814 unrented apartment listings in Manhattan, which is more than thee times the number of units yanked off the market around the same time last year. The practice of pulling apartments off the market, known as 'warehousing,' has come under fire from affordable housing advocates and lawmakers, who contend that refusing to rent out apartments at lower-than-usual rates exacerbates the city's already severe housing shortage, reported Wall Street Journal. Real estate data show that jittery Manhattan landlords pulled 1,814 rental apartments off the market in February alone Median rental prices in Manhattan tumbled more than 17 per cent by the end of December 2020 ...

One of the most revealing data points in the college football offseason cycle was made public earlier this week: The list of invitees to the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Of course, there is no combine this year, at least not in a congregate setting in Indianapolis — players are working out on campus and interviewing with teams remotely. But that didn’t stop the NFL talent evaluators from selecting the prospects who would have participated in-person. All 323 of them. That’s roughly the same number of invitations as in previous years and more than enough to illuminate the dispersal of high-end talent in major college football. The Pac-12 had 36 players on the invite list — not as many as in the past. Presumably, the extra year of eligibility for seniors served as a limiting factor, but we’re unsure of the extent: Most of the players good enough to be...
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will be headlining a hotly anticipated television interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday — one that both fans and detractors expect to go into greater depth than any royal has so far about the couple’s “unbelievably tough” separation from the British royal family. The week leading up to the CBS airing has been the messiest since the split began in early 2020, with Buckingham Palace announcingan unprecedented investigation into alleged workplace bullying by the duchess. The couple’s spokesperson called a report on the claims in Britain’s The Times “a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation.” Increasing tensions around the separation have deepened interest in the prime time special, which was filmed at the home of a friend near the couple’s Montecito mansion. The couple’s “stepping back” from their previous roles has been closely watched...

Written by Rebecca Jepsen for the BANG News Group To say that 2020 was an unprecedented year seems like such an understatement! When I wrote my last update in July 2020 I was hopeful we were going to round the COVID-19 corner quickly and get back to some semblance of normalcy — but that certainly didn’t happen. Combine that with the issues and protests around social injustice and the most divisive, disruptive and destructive election any of us could have imagined — and unfathomable might be a better word. Prior to the pandemic, the housing market was on a steep upward trajectory. Once the shelter-in-place orders were implemented things came to a screeching halt and the U.S. economy suffered its steepest dip since the Great Depression. Per Aculist data for Santa Clara County, we saw a 34% decline in sales volume in April 2020. Our biggest drop was in May...

Monarch butterflies provide a unique spectacle every fall as they migrate to Mexico to hibernate for the winter. But now, that migration is at risk, as logging and climate change have taken a toll on the areas where these butterflies rest.  According to a new report by the World Wildlife Fund and Mexico's government, the monarch population present for hibernation in Mexico plunged by 26% in December compared to the same month in 2019. In 2019, the monarchs occupied 2.83 hectares, nearly 7 acres, in their hibernation forests in Mexico. After their latest migration in 2020, however, they occupied just 2.1 hectares, roughly 5.1 acres.  Jorge Rickards, director general of WWF-Mexico, said the data shows that the migratory process of monarchs is at risk, and urged governments and scientists to work on addressing the issue.  In the U.S., the monarch butterfly is approaching endangered status. In December, the U.S....
Bankruptcy filings for publicly traded companies jumped 70 percent in 2020 from the year before, as the pandemic and lockdowns wrought havoc on the economy, according to a new study. In 2020, there were 110 bankruptcy filings by public companies, up from 64 the prior year, according to data from New Generation Research.   The share of billion-dollar public companies filing for bankruptcy was near an all-time high last year, led by the collapse of rental car company Hertz, which declared $25 billion in assets. New York City lost two-thirds of its cultural and entertainment jobs in the past year amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new report from the New York State Comptroller’s office. The report released this month looked at jobs in performing arts and sports; amusement and recreation; and museums and parks, all of which saw dramatic drops starting in April as New York shut down to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. "Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the level of employment, the number of establishments and total wages in the arts, entertainment and recreation sector had each expanded significantly over the past decade, growing at a much faster rate than for all sectors citywide," the comptroller’s report stated. “As of December 2020, employment had declined by 66 percent compared to one year earlier, the largest decline among all sectors in the City’s economy.” Almost 87,000 people remain in the New York...

Looking back now, Matt Olson didn’t like his 2020 season. He’s looked at himself on film at the plate and did not like the swing that was looking back. “To put it bluntly, I stunk last year in my opinion,” Olson said in a call with reporters on Tuesday. “I don’t think that represents the caliber of player I am. I’m excited to get out there and prove that’s not the player I am.” Olson worked with hitting coach Darren Bush to identify and work through some of the mistakes he was making in 2020. He noticed he was putting himself in a bad position at the plate and that his bat was too horizontal. He had himself swinging around his body, rolling over stuff and unable to stay through the ball. A convicted murderer currently behind bars for the rape and murder of a woman in 1980 will now stand trial for the death of his adopted daughter, 14, who he allegedly pushed down the stairs, dismembered and buried under a concrete slab back in 1989. Dennis Bowman, 71, from Michigan, appeared in Allegan County District Court Monday where a judge ruled there was 'ample evidence' to send him to trial over the slaying of Aundria Bowman, who he previously claimed had ran away from home. Bowman's wife Brenda Bowman testified that her husband confessed to their daughter's murder in a prison phone call last year where he told her Aundria's body had been 'right under your nose' in their backyard for the last three decades.  At the time of his confession, Bowman was behind bars for the rape and murder of 25-year-old Kathleen Doyle, the wife of a US Navy pilot, after new...

On Thursday, Facebook released a new moderation transparency report showing a marked uptick in bullying and harassment enforcement, which reached a peak of 6.3 million total takedowns through the last quarter of 2020. It’s an increase from 3.5 million pieces last quarter and 2.8 million in the fourth quarter of 2019. The company said much of the change is due to improvements in the automated systems that analyze Facebook and Instagram comments. Facebook’s latest transparency report covers October to December 2020, a period that includes the US presidential election. During that time, the main Facebook network removed more harassment, organized hate and hate speech, and suicide and self-harm content. Instagram saw significant jumps in bullying and self-harm removals. The company says its numbers were shaped by two factors: more human review capacity and improvements in artificial intelligence, especially for non-English posts. “We’re investing in technology across all the different sorts...

For the first time, the three-time All-Pro running back will be playing in it, albeit as a backup for the Kansas City Chiefs. “I [was] always envisioning that I would be in the game,” Bell told reporters Tuesday. “So now that I'm eight years into the league and I finally got here, it's like a dream come true.” Bell’s happiness at the opportunity shone through in...
Young adults and middle-aged people were responsible for the vast majority of COVID-19's spread in the US last year, a new study suggests.  People between ages 20 and 49 were drove just shy of 72 percent of transmissions between February and October, according to a new research by Imperial College London scientists.  Those aged 20 to 34 contributed about 35 percent of the spread, but older adults were responsible for an even larger share of the spread. People between ages 35 and 49 accounted for more than 41 percent of transmissions.  The study found that young children going back to school in the fall was probably not a major driver of the increase in infections seen in the fall. The US was seeing more than 50,000 new cases a day by October, compared to about 25,000 a day in mid-June.  Instead, as more Americans went back to relatively 'normal life'...

MANCHESTER UNITED suffered a deep blow to their title bid this week, with their shock 2-1 home defeat to basement boys Sheffield United seeing them surrender top spot. But just the fact that they are in the conversation at all is an improvement on recent seasons. 24How United could line up in 2012-13 Not so long ago, United were there or thereabouts year-in, year-out under the expert guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson. Prior to the misery of David Moyes, lows under Louis van Gaal and the moroseness of Jose Mourinho, Sir Alex won the league in five of his last seven seasons, culminating in his final triumph back in 2012-13. A new non-invasive treatment for prostate cancer is the 'single biggest change in 20 years' and can prevent side-effects related to surgery, a new study found.  Researchers from Imperial College London studied the results of over 500 patient given the treatment - named focal therapy - to track its effectiveness.  Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer among men in the UK, with around 48,500 new cases every year and traditional treatments come with life changing side effects including sexual dysfunction and incontinence. Focal therapy uses ultrasound or cryotherapy to specifically target cancer cells in the prostate gland without damaging surrounding tissue.  The team say hospitals also stand to benefit, as the treatment can be delivered in a self-contained area and most patients can recover at home. However, the treatment comes at a hefty price, with specialised machines costing around £500,000.   Researchers from Imperial College London studied...

(CNN)The numbers are in. The hottest seven years in recorded history are: 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015 and 2014. Notice a trend? It's all about that horrifying trend towards a level of global overheating impossible to control."What really matters, and what I think is really significant and really concerning, is that the seven hottest years on record were the past seven years," Marvel told CNN. Content creators in Hollywood are known to bend the truth. When it comes to potraying abortion plotlines on the screen, things are no different. A new report by Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) at the University of California, San Francisco, looked into the ways abortion patients and topics are portrayed on TV and in movies. Researchers have been compiling annual data since 2012, and publicly releasing the reports since 2016. Researchers use several methods to track information, including web searches, IMDB, following various streaming platforms, and relying on word-of-mouth. Researchers say that while more accurate depictions of abortion are translating to the screen, there’s still a long way to go. Of the 31 abortion plotlines on TV and film in 2020, 73% featured a character obtaining an abortion. This is a drop from 2019, which had 43 abortion discussions or storylines on television alone. New York Attorney General Letitia James is suing the New York City Police Department and its leadership over their ‘excessive, brutal and unlawful’ handling of Black Lives Matter protests last year. LONDON — With just days until the deadline, the United Kingdom and European Union agreed to a post-Brexit trade deal Thursday, signaling the end of a four-year saga that engulfed British politics and exposed a deep cultural divide that shows no signs of healing. “A deal is done,” a U.K. government spokesperson said in a statement. “This agreement allows the beginning of a new relationship between the U.K. and the E.U.,” the spokesperson said. “One that we have always wanted — a thriving trading and economic relationship between a sovereign U.K. and our European partners and friends.” Both sides will present the deal as a political win, saving the U.K. and remaining 27 E.U. members from the threat of a “no-deal” Brexit — widely regarded as a nightmare scenario that would damage economies on both sides. ANTHONY JOSHUA believes a harsh 2019 toughened him up perfectly for Kubrat Pulev tomorrow. On his US debut last June he cherry-picked Andy Ruiz Jr to be the perfect push-over to help launch him into a Deontay Wilder undisputed battle. 6Anthony Joshua is adamant rebuilding from his shock loss to Andy Ruiz has helped himCredit: ©Mark Robinson/Matchroom But the tubby Mexican stunned him, with four deckings inside seven rounds and some critics even accused AJ of quitting the bout while standing in his corner recuperating. The 31-year-old rebuilt at his Sheffield Team GB training base, under mentor Rob McCracken, and raced back to outpoint Ruiz last December. And the WBA, IBF and WBO champ says he first pro loss, the fall-out and the resurrection have helped forge him in steel. "The pressure I went through last year was tough," he said. A Salt Lake City government agency worker, 59, has been accused of embezzling at least $95,000 of public funds which she spent on car payments, eHarmony dating site, Domino's pizza and to pay for her son's utility bills.  Tracey Leigh Schmidtke, who was office manager for Stansbury Service Agency in Tooele County, Utah, allegedly set up a PayPal account using the agency's name and credit card and transferred $33,700 from it to her personal bank account over the last three months.   Schmidtke also allegedly used the PayPal account to go on a $40,000 spending spree buying up pizza and clothes from retailers including Amazon, Domino's, Stitch Fix, Twitch, Urban Outfitters and spending on dating app eHarmony within the same timeframe.  The now-fired agency worker is also accused of using her company credit card to buy $21,184.24 worth of goods in the five months between May 29 and November 3.  The...
She hates doing it. We’ve never been huge fans of it, either. And yet, Melania Trump, an icon in the War Against Christmas, has done it again: decorated the White House. It is both a Groundhog’s Day-esque holiday ritual and a finale. The first lady, who has decked the halls nightmarishly for four years, with blood-red trees and barren white branches, will finally sign off from a job she admittedly loathed. “Who gives a fuck about Christmas stuff?” Melania whined in a conversation her former “friend,” Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, secretly taped two years ago and released last month. Never one to mask her emotions, Melania looked on at this year’s display of tinsel and twinkling trees with the type of disdain one might save for glaring at a raccoon rummaging through discarded sugar cookies sitting in the trash outside on December 26. “During this special time of year,...

Dear Moneyist, I have been with my fiancé for over two years, and we each have three kids from previous marriages. Five of the kids get along great with everyone. However, my fiancé has a 16-year-old son who wants nothing to do with any of us, and I am finding myself not wanting to get him anything for Christmas. In general, he has a bad attitude, contributes nothing to the household, and doesn’t apply himself in school. Yet he thinks he should be allowed to play sports and be given a car and insurance. This all bothers me, but what bothers me most is the way he treats all the rest of us. For example, at my own son’s 7th birthday, he begrudgingly showed up to the party, didn’t talk to anybody and left early. I believe he only showed up because he was told that he had to. When...
Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner's children made sure the White House turkey was given plenty of extra attention at the annual pardoning ceremony this year, taking time to play with and pet the big bird before it was officially spared by President Donald Trump.  The family of five were dressed to the nines for the traditional event - which they skipped last year - where they took front row seats, watching on as Trump pardoned the chosen bird in front of a limited and socially-distanced crowd.  But social distance went out of the window when it came to Corn, the turkey, with both Arabella, nine, and her younger brother Theodore, four, getting up close and personal with their new feathered friend before it was taken up on stage for the official pardon.  Family affair: Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner brought all three of their children to the annual turkey...
