The higher court upheld the legality of the gun law last month in a case filed by Max Misch, who was charged in 2019 with the misdemeanor counts for allegedly buying two, 30-round rifle magazines in New Hampshire and then bringing them back to Vermont.     A Fairfield County man has been arrested for allegedly running from police during a motor vehicle stop and for having a loaded firearm magazine. The incident took place around 2:24 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, when Bridgeport Police attempted a vehicle stop of Christopher Serrano, of Bridgeport, for not having a registration, said Scott Appleby, director of emergency management. After getting out of the vehicle, Serrano allegedly began to run away from officers while clutching his waistband. During the brief foot pursuit, two objects fell from his pants, Appleby said. Serrano was caught in the area of Clarence Street, with one officer receiving an injury to his hand, police added. The law, passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Phil Scott in response to what police described as a near-miss school shooting in Fair Haven, is a “reasonable regulation of the right of the people to bear arms for self-defense,” the court said in its decision. The court issued the ruling in a case filed by Max Misch, of Bennington, who was charged in 2019 with the misdemeanor counts for allegedly buying two, 30-round rifle magazines in New Hampshire and then bringing them back to Vermont.
