(Photo by Al Pereira/Getty Images) Injuries were a big factor in the 49ers tumbling to the NFC West basement. From a 4-12 disaster showing to a 13-3 finish and an appearance in Super Bowl LIV to a 6-10 mark and in last place in the NFC West. New York’s Coney Island might be the home of the world’s most famous rollercoaster. But you would have a hard time convincing many that there has been a wilder ride in the NFL in the past three seasons than the San Francisco 49ers. It has already been an offseason in which the future of oft-injured quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been questioned (from Marc Delucchi of NinersWire.com). But general manager John Lynch came out and gave the seven-year pro a ringing endorsement recently (via Clark Judge on the Full Press Coverage Podcast). In any case, head coach Kyle Shanahan and the team have work...

New Mexico Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham reportedly spent thousands of dollars in taxpayer money on luxury groceries, liquor, and dry cleaning, most of which was for her own personal use. Grisham spent a total of $13,500 in the second half of 2020, including $6,500 in groceries, containing high-tag items such as Wagyu beef and tuna steaks in addition to vodka, tequila, and gin, according to financial disclosures obtained by the Sante Fe New Mexican. The Democrat spent $200 in booze in one Sam's Club visit, reportedly used taxpayer money on her dry cleaning, and purportedly went on the spending spree as associates in her orbit received $7,500 to $12,000 salary bumps. “It really appears in the Governor’s Office as if she really believes herself to be more privileged than everybody else in New Mexico,” House Minority Whip Rod Montoya, a Republican, said of the expenses. “I didn’t...
An undocumented immigrant mother from Mexico was reunited Thursday with her three children after she spent more than three years in sanctuary at a church in Ohio to avoid a deportation order.   'Finally, I can go home,' Edith Espinal said at a press conference outside the ICE building Thursday in Westerville. 'I hope this can open doors for other people living in sanctuary.'  Espinal was ordered to self-deport by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in 2017 after her request for asylum was turned down. The 43-year-old, who in 1995 fled her western Mexico hometown of Michoacán due to violence, stayed in the US and avoided deportation by obtaining refuge in October 2017 at the Columbus Mennonite Church in Columbus, Ohio, where she has lived since 2000. Living at the church offered her a level of protection, as the agency's policy is to avoid apprehending immigrants at schools or churches.  ...

The White House's director of security has lost his right leg and part of his left foot to COVID after spending three months in the ICU, a friend has revealed. Crede Bailey, 54, was first revealed to have contracted the virus in early October but a friend who set up a GoFundMe has now revealed the full extent of his battle. He lost his lower right leg and the big toe of his left foot during the three-month battle which appears to have begin in early September, as much as a month before his illness was revealed. The married father of one's role at the White House included overseeing the issuing of security credentials and liaising with the Secret Service. He is a career civil servant who previously worked for the Army. Two people familiar with Crede Bailey's condition confirmed the details to Bloomberg in a Monday report as a...
A man who spent 31 years behind bars for marijuana trafficking was released from prison on Thursday. Richard DeLisi, 71, gathered for an emotional homecoming with his family in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and said he wants to help advocate for prison reform.  "The system needs to change and I'm going to try my best to be an activist," he told reporters Thursday.  In 1989, DeLisi was sentenced to 90 years in prison for smuggling more than 100 pounds of marijuana from Colombia into Florida, CBS affiliate WPEC reported. He's believed to be the longest-serving inmate for a non-violent marijuana conviction.  His parents, wife and son, Stephen, all passed away while he was in prison. But his two remaining children, Ashley and Rick, and five grandchildren have been eagerly awaiting his release. "It was a rough time, I'll tell you that. It was a rough ride," DeLisi said. DeLisi said...
'I mean, what is the rush all of a sudden?' Kellyanne Conway undermined Donald Trump's demand for an immediate election result on Thursday. In a Fox News interview, his former White House counselor and 2016 campaign manager made a strong argument for Americans to wait patiently for every vote to be counted. "We spent three years — they spent three years investigating the president, impeaching the president. We can't wait three hours, three days, three weeks, to get a result in our great, sturdy democracy as to whom the next president will be?" Conway asked. "I mean, what is the rush all of a sudden?"
Nearly $1 billion worth of real estate in the Hamptons was sold in the last quarter as wealthy New Yorkers fled the city, according to a new report. Between July and September, home sales on the upscale East End of Long Island topped $973 million, a staggering 102 percent increase from the same period last year, according to a report on Thursday from luxury brokerage Brown Harris Stevens.  It came as soaring violent crime, declining quality of life, and pandemic lockdowns drove a mass exodous from New York City, with many among the city's elite turning their eyes east toward Hamptons' sandy shores, long known as a retreat for the ultra-rich. Sales of single-family homes in the Hamptons totaled 448 for the third quarter, an increase of 51 percent from last year, and the highest number in at least five years. The RiNo neighborhood just welcomed a new addition to its coffee scene; Lekker Coffee opened in the former Hotbox Roasters space at 3460 Larimer Street on October 1. Mother and daughter Dawn Kaprielian and Kara Finkelstein take the name RiNo seriously— and literally— as their cafe seeks to raise awareness about  endangered rhinoceroses, a cause to which they donate ten percent of all their coffee shop's sales. In 2017, Finkelstein quit her corporate job to travel around Europe but ended her trip with a six-week stint in South Africa. While there, she volunteered with the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, an organization that rescues baby rhinos whose mothers have been poached. After returning to Denver, she moved with her husband to RiNo and felt it serendipitous that her new neighborhood shared a name with the creatures she'd just spent time learning about and caring for. She decided to take it as an opportunity...

For the first time, they are trying a two-orbit, three-hour approach to the orbiting outpost. Previously it took twice as long for the crews to reach the station. The trio will join the station’s NASA commander, Chris Cassidy, and Roscosmos cosmonauts Anatoly Ivanishin and Ivan Vagner, who have been aboard the complex since April and are scheduled to return to Earth a week later. Speaking during Tuesday’s pre-launch news conference at Baikonur, Rubins emphasized that the crew spent weeks in quarantine...

One of the biggest mistakes fantasy football owners make when acquiring free agents through waivers is chasing last week’s points. How many times have you seen someone blow a huge chunk of their FAAB budget or waste their top waiver priority on a one-week wonder? After Week 1, it was Nyheim Hines and Russell Gage. After Week 2, it was Chase Claypool and Dalton Schultz. Looking at box scores rarely tells you the full story of a game, and if you aren’t careful, you are destined to make the same mistakes once again. Adding Cowboys wide receiver Cedrick Wilson is chasing points. Buried on the depth chart, Wilson stumbled onto five catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns Sunday. Those who only read box scores, in lieu of actually watching the game, won’t see how Dallas spent most of the game in catch-up mode, and the Seattle defense added...

President Donald Trump’s campaign spent more money in three months on advertisements with Fox News than it did for local TV in three battleground states, according to an ad-tracking firm. Advertising Analytics determined the campaign spent $9.4 million Fox News national ads for June, July and August and $8.3 million for local broadcast TV in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota, Politico reported. This comes as polls, such as a CNBC poll released Wednesday, finds Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to be up in multiple swing states. Biden currently holds a narrow lead in Michigan, Wisconsin and some other states, the CNBC poll found. Despite this, Trump has opted to focus on Fox News viewers over advertising to local TV – although, as Politico reported, Fox News boasts the biggest audience numbers on cable and therefore will likely include some voters on the fence in these states. “The data shows that a...

GARDENING may not come naturally to all of us - but since we went into lockdown, having a well-kept outdoor space to escape to has become an absolute essential. One person who knows a little something about this is mum-of-three Kelly Jones - who recently revamped her rubbish-filled garden with some purse-friendly bargains from Pound and B&M. The Oldham-based mum was horrified by the state of the garden when she recently moved into a new property in December. The previous tenants had left the garden cluttered with bags of rubbish, broken glass and dog poo. Kelly told LatestDeals: "We had to remove the rubbish. We had to dig the areas that are full of flowers and sift through an amazing amount of rubbish that was buried there, such as glass, bags full of rubbish and house bricks." After three separate trips to the tip, Kelly, her three girls and some...
Chicago taxpayers spent $66 million renovating a convention center into an emergency coronavirus hospital that ended up only treating 38 patients. Further, the contract to renovate the facility went to a politically connected company instead of one that said it would waive fees or donate such money to coronavirus relief organizations. The Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday that top aides to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot defended the decision to spend $1.7 million per patient on the renovations, calling it an “insurance policy” for the unfounded fear that Chicago’s hospitals would be overwhelmed with coronavirus patients. Samir Mayekar, deputy mayor for economic and neighborhood development, told the outlet that he was “incredibly proud of” the converted facility, adding that the millions of dollars in taxpayer money was “not spent in vain.” Taxpayers stuck with the bill may see things differently. The contract for the renovations was awarded to a politically connected company...

Frequent flyers no more... Getty Images It’s the well-known, but little-discussed, reality of a life in the financial markets: very little business actually takes place on Wall Street, or anywhere in New York for that matter. Even before coronavirus forced the world into an extended office hiatus, much of the financial services industry has been scattered around North America. Between visits to clients on their turf, conferences and marketing events in far-flung corners, and more, a career “on The Street” may just as easily have meant “on the road.” MarketWatch checked in with a few high-profile financial road warriors to see how they’ve handled having to hunker down, their overnight bags gathering dust. We asked what, if any, shifts in the way financial services operate might be here to stay when things get “back to normal,” if there is such a thing. These are not stories of...

A Victorian-obsessed graduate has snubbed the 9-5 life to pursue her dream of living like a 19th century duchess in a country mansion. Jacqueline Brown, 25, from St. Louis City, Missouri always thought she'd take an office job after university, but decided to pursue her passion for the Victorian era after coming across the opportunity to be the live-in caretaker of a 19th century manor house. Amazon's Shield protection service says that it successfully defended against the biggest Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack ever recorded.  According to a regular report from Amazon's AWS Shield division, which is specifically designed to safeguard Amazon cloud customers against DDoS attacks, the effort topped out at 2.3 terabits per second. The rate measures the amount of incoming traffic being funneled into targets' servers every second. The DDoS attack is the largest ever recorded and outpaces a previous record set in 2018 (stock) As reported by ZDNet, which first noticed the record-breaking attack, Amazon did not identify who the target was but said it took place in mid-February.  The company also said that the attack caused three days of 'elevated threat' for AWS Shield.  In this case Amazon says the the CLDAP (Connection-less Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) was exploited.
