Ever since Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville recorded an almost undecipherable version of the French song “Au Clair de la Lune” in the mid-19th century, it’s been clear that the technology that you use to produce and listen to sounds can affect your experience. Even now, about 150 years later, the quality of your gear can mean the difference between a tinny, nearly unrecognizable noise or a fully realized aural experience. As you can imagine, the people here at The News Brig spend a lot of time listening to a variety of digital sounds — whether it’s online meetings, music, podcasts, videos, or sound checks of their own multimedia productions. We asked the staff what their favorite devices were to either listen to, enhance, or produce their digital sounds. Here’s what they talked about. The previous one was not false, but neither was it true, understand? We explain how the matter is. The POT published for the first time the audio and video recorded by the microphones of the Perserverance, this February 22. The images and sounds correspond precisely to the moment of their arrival on the surface of Mars. Likewise, it is clarified that the audiovisual material that circulated through the networks from the day after their arrival, is not from this new mission. However, it is not false either. Perseverance arrived on Mars on the 18th, therefore, on the 19th there was already a presumed video with sound of the red planet. This one is not fake, but it is not 100% real either and we explain why. What had been seen previously is a recreation of Curiosity, other rover of the POT on Martian soil. So, with the data the...

A former Navy lieutenant who spent six months in 2017 in business with Hunter Biden, trying unsuccessfully to get a joint venture with a Chinese firm off the ground, has made public an audio recording from earlier this month, which he claims was a Biden associate trying to silence him. Tony Bobulinski appeared on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show on Tuesday night and an audio was played of Rob Walker - whose wife works for Jill Biden - allegedly warning Bobulinski not to go public with the information.  ‘You’re just going to bury all of us, man,’ Walker allegedly said in the October 18 conversation. During the interview, Bobulinski also claimed that in 2017, he asked Joe Biden's brother Jim - who was part of their business consortium - how he could 'get away with' all their business dealings. Bobulinski claimed that Jim replied: 'Plausible deniability.' Bobulinski further claimed during the interview...

Audio media has been an important part of our lives ever since the first news reporters crackled their way into homes in 1920. For a while, it was assumed that visual media and then the internet would be the death of audio-only entertainment, but it turned out that this obit was premature. Podcasting has brought new popularity to audio. From book readings to investigative reporting to political opinion to interviews to theatrical productions, podcasts offer a wide range of entertainment and information. And what’s even better: podcasting is a creative form available to anyone who has a computer, a microphone, and an internet connection. We spoke to Andrew Marino, audio engineer and producer at The News Brig, to find out what he recommends for those who want to try this out as well. What follows are Andrew’s thoughts about podcasting and the tools he prefers to use. What...

There’s a new version of SteelSeries’ Arctis 9 wireless gaming headset available starting today for $199.99. The design and feature set is almost an exact match to the SteelSeries Arctis 9X. But while the Arctis 9X supports the Xbox One (and is forward compatible to Xbox Series S / X), the new Arctis 9 is compatible with the PC and PlayStation 4, with compatibility for the PS5 ensured at launch. And while the Arctis 9X doesn’t require a dongle to connect to the Xbox, the Arctis 9 needs the included USB receiver that you can toggle from PC to PlayStation, depending on the platform you’ve plugged it into. Otherwise, the new headset has the same claim of 20-hour battery life and the ability to be connected via 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth simultaneously — a feature that I love dearly. It’s great if you want to listen to podcasts or take...
The last two console generations from Microsoft and Sony — spanning from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 all the way to the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X — have been transformative in terms of audio quality. Consumers have been able to move away from high-fidelity tuners and sprawling surround-sound speaker systems to relatively inexpensive and high-quality headphones. That means many consumers, myself included, have laid out some serious coin for new cans. But will your audio investment pay off with the next generation of consoles? We talked to four major manufacturers to get some answers. Turns out, things are still a little bit up in the air. “We’re dependent upon [Microsoft and Sony] to kind of tell us that [our] products are forward-compatible,” said John Moore, head of marketing and sales for growth peripherals at Razer, in an interview with News Brig last week. That’s because his...

'But you're missing the boat on how it works going forward.' Leaked audio appears to have Jeff Zucker and Michael Cohen speaking just before the GOP primary debate on March 10, 2016, which CNN hosted Fox News Privacy Policy Zucker would later express worry with corresponding with Cohen by email, adding that he couldn't risk the possible chance that Trump...

Forget meditation and online pilates classes, audio erotica is the wellness trend women have embraced during lockdown, providing a full body experience that allows their imaginations to 'run wild' while tuning into physical pleasure. Unlike mainstream pornography, a new wave of audio stories and apps, branded by some as 'porn for your ears', are best described as a blend of storytelling and sexual wellness.  Female-founded start-ups such as Dipsea, an app of short stories ranging from five to 20 minutes, is designed for women to focus on their bodies through guided sexual audio.  Co-founder Gina Gutierrez, based in California, revealed how the app, targeted at 25 to 35-year-old women, has seen a 'significant increase' since lockdown began in March.  She told Vogue how 'sexuality' should be in the same wellness category as 'exercise and meditation' in order to awaken the senses.  The audiobooks, described by some as 'porn for...

Panasonic Other important vlogging features include a microHDMI output, external 3.5mm microphone input but, alas, no headphone port. A very cool feature is the OZO audio by Nokia that can isolate audio to a specific person by using face-detection tracking — something that can theoretically improve audio quality. You also get Vlog-L video that improves dynamic range, but no 10-bit recording like you’ll find on Panasonic’s GH5. Other more photo-centric features include a 20.3-megapixel sensor, respectable 3.68-million dot LCD EVF and max 10 fps shooting speeds (continuous autofocus) with the electronic shutter or 6 fps with the mechanical shutter. As usual, Panasonic uses contrast detect autofocus for both video and photos and offers subject tracking and face/eye detection. All told, the G100 looks like a solid vlogging option, other than the very unfortunate 4K cropping. It costs $750 with a 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, the same as Sony’s ZV-1 but...

Jimmy Kimmel is under fire as audio circulated Tuesday on social media shows he used the N-word multiple times while imitating Snoop Dogg in the ’90s. The audio reportedly came from a KROQ-FM Christmas parody song called “A Family Christmas In Your Ass.” In a 2013 podcast with longtime comedy collaborator, Adam Carolla, according to the Daily Mail, Kimmel discussed his past use of the N-word. As that discussion went viral this week, Fox News surfaced the racist parody song. From 1999 to 2003, Kimmel co-hosted The Man Show, a Comedy Central series that featured a mix of sketches and in-studio segments that’s received ample criticism over the years for its blatant sexism, racism, and transphobic depictions. But amid a new reckoning with white comedians and performers donning blackface in mainstream entertainment over the last couple of decades, some people are scrutinizing several Man Show segments in which Kimmel wears...
On Tuesday, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel broke his silence over recent reports regarding his use of the N-word on a past Christmas album and over donning blackface in old “Man Show” sketches. In a statement released Tuesday, the embattled “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host took shots at folks on the right, whom he identified as  “those who equate apologies with weakness and cheer for leaders who use prejudice to divide us,” while offering his apologizes to those “offended” by his actions. “I have long been reluctant to address this, as I knew doing so would be celebrated as a victory by those who equate apologies with weakness and cheer for leaders who use prejudice to divide us,” the statement started, “That delay was a mistake. There is nothing more important to me than your respect, and I apologize to those who were genuinely hurt or offended by the makeup I wore...
Audio of comedian Jimmy Kimmel using the n-word during an impersonation of rapper Snoop Dogg in 1996 has surfaced. The impersonation was part of a Christmas album in which Kimmel wrote an original song using the n-word multiple times, according to a report published Monday by Fox News. The admission regarding the use of the n-word occurred during a 2013 podcast episode hosted by Adam Carolla and obtained by Fox News. Kimmel also used a “crazy black voice” to imitate George Wallace during the podcast episode. “Me and my n*gga down in LBC, we’ll smoke that motherf*cking Christmas tree,” Kimmel said in the song, Fox News reported. Other lyrics in the song include “fat n*gga in a sleigh giving sh*t away” and “n*gga in the manger.” During the 2013 podcast episode, Carolla claimed Kimmel was impersonating Snoop Dogg and the comedian confirmed. “This is when Snoop Dogg first came...
Jimmy Kimmel is about to get canceled. Audio emerged Monday of the late-night host allegedly using the N-word multiple times while mimicking rapper Snoop Dogg during the recording of a comedic Christmas album in 1996. Kimmel admitted to using the racial epithet during a podcast interview in 2013, Fox News reported. However, the album was not made public until Fox News exclusively published the audio on Monday. The album is titled, "A Family Christmas in Your A**." In the song "Christmastime in the LBC," the singer refers to Santa Claus as the "fat n***** in a sleigh giving sh** away," refers to Jesus as the "n***** in the manger," and mocks black culture, saying, "I told that motherf****r Santa, bring a pick for my afro." "Me and my n***** down in LBC, we'll smoke that motherf****r Christmas tree," Kimmel says in the song, Fox News reported. (Content Warning:...

Twitter doesn’t have a team dedicated to accessibility, instead relying on employees who volunteer their time above and beyond their usual duties, and the company may have already realized that’s a mistake — after taking flak for the lack of captions in Twitter’s brand-new audio tweet feature, the company tells The News Brig that it’s exploring how to build a “more dedicated group” to focus on accessibility problems. The lack of a dedicated team was revealed by Twitter software engineer Andrew Hayward, following complaints from accessibility advocates. He later clarified that the group wasn’t unpaid, but were regular Twitter employees who dedicated some of their time to accessibility issues. Just to clarify, given that this seems to have gained some traction… we are volunteers in so much as the work we do is notionally on top of our regular roles, rather than being full time. We are all otherwise paid...
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s briefing was derailed Tuesday by major issues with the audio systems. The problems persisted throughout the briefing, causing loud reverb and echoes and at other times cutting out entirely while McEnany and reporters were speaking. It got so bad that Fox News host Harris Faulkner had to cut away from the White House more than once. (RELATED: ‘A Ridiculous Proposition’: Kayleigh McEnany Fires Back After Biden Worries Military Might Have To Remove Trump) WATCH: Faulkner, who tried to show the briefing live several times, cut away and returned to “Outnumbered Overtime” when it was clear that the audio simply wasn’t going to function properly. “We’ve now gotten word that the audio has been repaired. When EA Sports came up with its longtime slogan, “It’s in the game,” no one thought it would apply to what was literally happening on the field. But in another twist due to the coronavirus pandemic, the video game company is playing a part in the return of two of Europe’s top-flight soccer leagues. Electronic Arts will supply crowd noise for Spain’s La Liga and England’s Premier League which the company has gathered over the years for its FIFA Soccer franchise. The use of audio captured for a video game is another new wrinkle in a sporting landscape turned upside down by the pandemic. “This is definitely not a situation anyone thought of to show off our library. The important thing is hopefully it enhances the experience for someone watching a game,” said EA audio artist Paul Boechler. Fans got their first taste of the EA-supplied audio...

In these troubled times, Apple’s AirPods are your gateway to enjoyment and enlightenment — to the music that soothes your soul, to the podcasts that keep you in the know. (They’re awfully handy for those Zoom calls, too.) So, naturally, you want them to sound their best. An Oakdale tech company, Hearing Components, is helping to do that. The longtime maker of Comply foam eartips for use with your preferred earbuds has just released tip variants for the current-model AirPods Pro. This addresses what had been an AirPods Pro shortcoming: That the new Apple buds are incompatible with the many eartips (including Comply’s tips) on the market. Until recently, only Apple’s own, rubber-y tips attached properly to the AirPods Pro, which was a shame since Comply foam tends to provide better audio quality. Indeed, Hearing Components’ new AirPods Pro tips sound superb. They attach to the Apple buds with ease,...
A 33-year-old black man who died in police custody in Tacoma, Washington, screamed “I can’t breathe” on dispatcher audio, a lawyer for the man’s family said. Marcus Ellis was apprehended by police March 3 when officers allegedly saw him “trying to open car doors of occupied vehicles,” Tacoma police said, according to CNN. Ellis had to be physically restrained because he was “combative,” police said. The officers called for medical aid when they saw he needed help, according to authorities, but Ellis died at the scene. Ellis died of respiratory arrest stemming from hypoxia caused by being restrained, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s office ruled. Civil and criminal defense attorney Eric Guster told "The Daily Briefing" Friday that incidents like the death of George Floyd after his arrest by Minneapolis police are coming to national attention in part because they are easily filmed and disseminated. "This is one incident that is on tape," Guster told host Dana Perino. "The minority communities and poor people have been victimized by police brutality for centuries. And part of what we are seeing now, we have people who have iPhones now ... wherein recording things are much easier than even ten years ago or earlier."
