    NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) — Police in New London are investigating the death of a child, authorities said Sunday. The New London police responded to a report of a woman damaging a car with a bat at about 6:30 a.m., the police said. While police were speaking to the car owner, the woman who allegedly had damaged the vehicle approached the officers and told them she had hurt her son, the police said. The officers rushed to the woman's apartment and found an unconscious young child, police said. The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Connecticut state police, the state's attorney's office and the medical examiner's office were at the scene, the New London police said. Jacob Gosselin, 34, of Sparks, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of murder in the killing of Edward Long, 48, of Reno, police said. Gosselin remained jailed Saturday and it wasn't immediately known whether Gosselin he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf regarding the allegation. Long was found dead in a car that had crashed into a tree on Jan. 14, 2020 and an investigation determined that he'd died from being shot, not crash injuries, police said.     MANTECA (CBS13) – Homicide detectives are investigating after a man who was found shot in a car at a crash scene died on Saturday, the Manteca Police Department said. Manteca police said reports of the man shot came in just before 4:30 p.m. from the intersection of E. Yosemite Avenue Northwoods Avenue. When officers arrived, they located the unconscious man in one of the vehicles at the scene and immediately began life-saving efforts, police said. Shortly later, first responders declared the man dead. The Manteca Police Department said homicide detectives arrived shortly after to take over the investigation.     New York State Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed a vehicle and fire of a gray 2021 Hyundai Sonata that left one dead in Stony Point to come forward with any information. The crash was discovered around 2 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, on the Palisades Parkway southbound at Exit 16 in the town of Stony Point, said Trooper Steven Nevel. When troopers found the vehicle, it was fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle was in a snowbank and facing west.  The troopers were not able to immediately determine if anyone was in the vehicle. The Stony Point Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire, Nevel said. Troopers observed one person in the vehicle, who was pronounced dead following the fire.     STOCKTON (CBS13) — What started as a recovery of a stolen car turned into a bigger investigation in Stockton over the weekend, authorities say. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office says, Saturday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer requested help with recovering a car that had reported stolen. The car was seen at a home along the 10700 block of N. Highway 99 E Frontage Road. As deputies soon discovered, the suspect – identified as 51-year-old Beau Jason Hybarger – had been living at the home with his 73-year-old mom. Hybarger was a convicted felon who had just been released a last week for an arrest on a separate case. Law enforcement officers started searching the home and bullets from two different types of weapons were found, the sheriff’s office says.     A white Army veteran has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of a 15-year-old black girl during a tense confrontation at a Trump rally outside the Iowa Capitol last month. Michael McKinney, 25, allegedly fired his gun into a car carrying four black teen girls, striking one of them in the leg, in Des Moines on Dec. 6, according to an Associated Press investigation . The investigation revealed a large group of white President Trump supporters clashed with the teens about politics before the shooting began. The girls were inside a car when the Trump supporters shouted racial slurs at them, officials said. The rioters then surrounded the car before the driver went in reverse, striking a pickup truck.     Jesus Alegria was skateboarding with some friends at a Compton park on an afternoon in April when Deputy Miguel Vega and his partner, Chris Hernandez, pulled up. Hands on their holsters, the deputies approached a group of teens. Alegria, 24, and his friends shouted at them to stop harassing the kids. The deputies, he said, rounded on them and words were exchanged. Vega suddenly grabbed Alegria’s wrists and shoved him into the back of the patrol car.     STOCKTON (CBS13) — Officers are investigating after a man was fatally shot inside a car in Stockton on Tuesday night. Stockton police say, around 8:40 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of N. Sutter Street to investigate a reported shooting. At the scene, a 50-year-old man with a gunshot wound was found inside a car. The man was rushed to the hospital, but he was soon pronounced dead. Homicide detectives have now taken over the investigation. However, neither a suspect nor a motive have been identified at this point. It happened near South Valentia Street and East Iliff Avenue. An unknown number of deputies first responded to the area for a report of three suspicious vehicles; a white Ford Expedition, a brown Chevrolet Silverado and black Cadillac Escalade. It happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Police said a man in his 20s or 30s stole a white Honda Civic near East 216th Street in Williamsbridge. He drove about six blocks before slamming into a blue Honda sedan near East Gun Hill Road, according to police.     Authorities have identified the driver killed Monday night in a five-car collision on the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.  Gerardo Francisco Perez Martinez, 35, of Camden died in the head-on crash, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.  The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Two cars heading west towards Philadelphia appeared to be speeding and one car clipped the other sending it into the eastbound lane, where it struck a Honda Civic head-on, according to Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Burlington County Bridge Commission Director of Public Safety Patrick J. Reilly, Jr. Martinez as pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:49 p.m. crash, they said.  Five other people were taken to the hospital with various injuries, none of which were life-threatening, they said.  The investigation is being led by BCPO Detective Jack Bowker and Det.     MODESTO (CBS13) — Authorities say the person who was killed in a triple shooting in Modesto over the weekend was a 14-year-old girl. The shooting happened early Saturday morning in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Oak Street. Modesto police say officers found that a car had been struck by gunfire. A total of four people – an 18-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and an 11-year-old girl – were inside the car. Officers say the 14-year-old girl died at the scene. The 18 and 16-year-olds were also shot but were rushed to the hospital and are recovering. The 11-year-old was not hurt in the shooting, police say. Exactly what led up to the shooting is under investigation. No suspect information has been released.     SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Authorities are still investigating a hit-and-run collision that killed a 54-year-old woman who was walking on Interstate 5 on Wednesday night, the California Highway Patrol said on Friday. Investigators are seeking any information from the public that could benefit the investigation after an unknown vehicle took off from the scene. The woman killed was struck by both a car that left the scene and a big rig. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident happened along the northbound lanes of the freeway just north of Richards Boulevard. Officers said that driver, a 68-year-old man from Sacramento, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. No description of the first car that hit the person has been released at this point. The car was headed north just before 4 p.m. Wednesday when it changed lanes at high speed, according to the preliminary investigation, state police said in a statement. Thedriver lost control and the car went off the highway and rolled over into a tree. The driver, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's name was not made public.     OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Three people have been arrested in the death of a man who crashed his car in Omaha after he was shot. Omaha police said in a news release that 34-year-old Jessie Sullivan was booked into jail Wednesday on suspicion of first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and evidence tampering. The other two suspects — 30-year-old Donna Sullivan and 28-year-old Ciera Johnson — were booked on suspicion of accessory to first-degree murder.     A Boston police officer has been captured on video bragging about hitting protesters with a car during a Black Lives Matter demonstration in the summer.  The uniformed sergeant, who has not been named, was on duty during the racial justice march on the evening of May 31 and morning of June 1 when he approaches an officer wearing a camera.     KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — A Klamath Falls Police detective has been arrested on accusations he caused a multi-vehicle crash on duty while under the influence of fentanyl taken from evidence in a police case. Thomas Reif, 27, was booked in the Klamath County Jail Tuesday on charges including controlled substance, impaired driving and official misconduct, according to a release from Oregon State Police, the agency handling the criminal investigation. Witnesses told police they saw Reif driving erratically on Nov. 27 before the crash in Klamath Falls, and paramedics found Reif not conscious and not breathing at the scene. Reif was taken to a local hospital and stabilized. No other injuries were reported. Over the weekend, evidence analyzed at an OSP crime lab allegedly determined that Reif had been under the influence of the synthetic opioid fentanyl, according to state police. The Tri-City Herald reports someone called Kennewick police 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after seeing a man rolling around in of vehicle, according to Kennewick police. The caller believed he had used narcotics and officers spotted him using drugs inside the car when they arrived, police said.     PARIS (AP) — An investigation has been opened into Formula One driver Romain Grosjean’s horrifying crash at the Bahrain Grand Prix, governing body FIA said Thursday. The FIA said it could take up to eight weeks before the conclusions are made public. The French driver was trapped in a burning car on Sunday when it sliced in half after penetrating a metal crash barrier and then exploded into a fireball.     A 13-year-old girl has died in Indiana after sticking her head out the window of a moving car and striking a utility pole, police said. Kelly Hume leaned out of the window of the vehicle driven by her 18-year-old sister Saturday night when it went off the road down a steep incline in Crown Point, The Northwest Indiana Times reported. The girl somehow struck a utility pole and was thrown from the car, the outlet reported.     An area teen has been arrested for a rash of car burglaries in which a handgun was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Friday, March 27. The teen was arrested on Monday, Nov. 23 following a lengthy investigation into the thefts which took place in Milford, said the Milford Police. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has a tool that allows drivers to check on recalls associated with their vehicles. Drivers can search by their vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, or by make, model and year. Results will include complaints made by drivers, recalls, investigations and manufacturer comments. If searching by VIN, the results will not include recalls more than 15 years old. The search tool can also be used for car seats and tires. Recalls are issued after the NHTSA investigates numerous complaints about the same issue.     Police are investigating an inexplicable, fatal single-car crash on Route 2 Monday, Nov. 16. On Tuesday around 10 p.m., Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a report that a vehicle had struck an abutment of the Otter River Road Bridge along Route 2 in Templeton, police said. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2103 Mazda 3 sedan was traveling east on Route 2 when, for reasons still under investigation, the car drove off the roadway to the left and struck the concrete structure supporting the bridge, police said. The driver, a 36-year-old man from Athol, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The victim’s name has not been released to the public at this time. In addition to Massachusetts State Troopers, the incident was also addressed by the Templeton Fire Department and Phillipston Police. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
    FULLERTON (CBSLA) — A 31-year-old man died Sunday following a two-car collision in Fullerton. The accident unfolded just after 2:45 a.m. at the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Lambert Road. It was there that authorities say a black Toyota Tacoma collided with a white Toyota 4-Runner. The driver of the Toyota Tacoma died at the scene. The other driver sustained minor injuries and remained at the scene. An initial investigation has revealed that the Toyota 4-Runner was stopped at a red light when the Toyota Tacoma collided with it. Authorities do not believe drugs and/or alcohol was a factor in the collision. The crash is under investigation. Anyone with more information was asked to call C. A group of six-year-olds assisted in a police investigation in Germany by sketching for cops a scene involving a hit-and-run driver who they witnessed smash through a road barrier. Police in the west German city of Hamm hailed the four youngsters — Luisa, Romy, Celina and Luis – for the drawings that they say is officially “part of the investigation file.” The youngsters were on their way to their elementary school Wednesday morning when they spotted the rogue motorist in a black car crash into the barrier and flee the scene. “The driver with short blonde hair didn’t care about the damage caused and kept driving,” police wrote in a Facebook post.     The Dutchess County Sheriff's Department is investigating a series of vehicle break-ins in Pleasant Valley and the Town of LaGrange, police said.  According to the department, most of the targeted vehicles have been unlocked and parked in their owner's driveways. In some instances, police said, car windows have been broken to steal property from within the vehicles.  Residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles and never leave valuables inside.     A Los Angeles police officer has been arrested on suspicion of car theft by Orange police detectives in connection with the theft of a vehicle from a used-car dealership in October 2019, officials said Tuesday. It happened Sunday afternoon, Nov. 1 in the 2600 block of E. Ovilla road. Adam David Lynch of Waxahachie and a juvenile male were trapped inside the burning car after it crashed into the Spare Room Mini Warehouse. The building also caught fire, but no one else inside was injured.     WEST HOLLYWOOD (KABC) -- An investigation is underway after a body was discovered inside a parked car outside a grocery store in West Hollywood on Sunday.The car was found parked at the Pavilions on Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevards around 4:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.Investigators are trying to figure out how that person died, but say the body could have been there for a while.Officials also added that no form of identification was found on the body, which has since been taken to the coroner's office.

    A 56-year-old Fairfield County man was killed after his vehicle veered off a roadway amid heavy rain, went down an embankment and struck a tree. Demar K. Thompson, of Bridgeport, was killed around 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29, about a mile north of Exit 12 in Shelton, while traveling southbound on Route 8, said Connecticut State Trooper Taylor Norton. According to Norton,  at the time of the crash and investigation, it was raining under daylight conditions, the roadway was wet, and traffic was moderate and moving at a steady flow.  For unknown reasons, Thompson lost control of his 2002 Range Rover and veered left off the roadway, down the embankment, and into a wooded area where it struck a tree, police said.
