The idea that gamers are antisocial grumps who stay up all night eating junk food while playing Call of Duty in their mother's basement is woefully outdated. According to a new survey, about half of all gamers admit they've been playing more since the pandemic started, but nearly three-quarters use it to socialize. Only ten percent of respondents said they munched on junk while gaming, compared to the 37 percent who don't eat at all while playing.  Nearly half of respondents kept their gaming to between 8pm and midnight, while just seven percent burned the midnight oil.  Scroll down for video Some 71 percent of gamers in a new survey from game developer Jagex say they play with online or real-world friends UK game developer Jagex first came on the scene in 2001 with RuneScape, a popular fantasy massively multiplayer online roleplaying game (MMORPG). The big man has largely been phased out in today’s NBA with the exception of Joel Embiid who is impressing Shaquille O’Neal in a big way. Joel Embiid is one of the leading candidates for the NBA MVP as the league reaches the halfway point. The Philadelphia 76ers center is having a career-year, averaging 29.8 points per game and 11.3 rebounds per game and his play has caught the attention of one of the game’s last great bigs, Shaquille O’Neal. “He’s playing up to his size,” Shaq said during an appearance on The John Kincade Show. “He’s playing with a lot more enthusiasm and he’s getting the numbers that it takes to be a big man in the MVP category.” “Any big man can get 20 [points], any big man can get 23, but it takes a special big man to average over 28 and dominate the way he did.”...

Tiger Woods was on his way to play golf with NFL stars Drew Brees and Justin Herbert when he was involved in a one-car accident Tuesday that saw the golf legend hospitalized with leg injuries. The 45-year-old Woods also was expected to take part in a photoshoot with the two quarterbacks, according to multiple reports. Woods was conscious and alert as he was pulled through the windshield of his damaged SUV in Rancho Palos Verdes, outside of Los Angeles. A Fire Department spokesperson told The Post they used an axe and another hand tool to pry the windshield out and extricate him.  Woods’ injuries, which include a compound fracture, according to the New York Times, were not considered life-threatening. Woods was the only person in the car, officials said. He was in Los Angeles for last weekend’s Genesis Invitational and on Sunday handed the trophy...
The creator of The Oatmeal, Matthew Inman, released a new cat-themed mobile word game called Kitty Letter earlier this week that feels like playing one of his irreverent comic strips. That feeling was intentional, Inman told me. “My comics have always been rhetorical,” he said. “You don’t interact with the comic, you have no say in it, you’re just experiencing it. So, with [Kitty Letter], I got a chance to introduce some elements where people get to play the comic, and I thought that was a lot of fun.” Kitty Letter has a structure that Inman described as “Scrabble combined with Clash Royale.” Your goal is to beat your opponent by spelling words from a combination of letters at the bottom of your phone’s screen. When you spell a word, you’ll send a small army of cats up an invisible “lane” toward your opponent. Meanwhile, your opponent is sending armies...

Russian Medvedev took the honors on a day where Tsitsipas was far from his best, beating the Greek 6-2, 6-4, 7-5 at the Rod Laver Arena in a match that lasted just over two hours. Coming into the match, Tsitsipas was in scintillating form having knocked out world No.2 Rafael Nadal in the quarter finals. On Friday, however, Medvedev was dominant, rarely being troubled by the Greek besides a break...

It is quite common for those domestic cats that spend time outdoors bring home the odd prey hunted by them. To prevent this from happening without affecting the freedom of the feline, a group of researchers from the United Kingdom seems to have found the solution. According to a study carried out by the University of Exeter, there is a simple way to make cats bring less prey home without having them inside full time: just play with them more and give them a more substantial diet. “Predation can be reduced by positive and non-invasive contributions to the nutrition and behavior of cats that reduce their tendency to hunt, instead of preventing their hunting, “said the team of researchers led by Martina Cecchetti, a scientist specializing in wildlife, in the study published in Current Biology. To reach these conclusions, the researchers examined a total of 219 homes in south-west...

The SKYY cloud computing ETF notched an all-time high Monday, the latest in what has been a year-long rally fueled by the pandemic and a shift to remote work. Ari Wald, head of technical analysis at Oppenheimer, said Monday the gains should continue. "These stocks possess momentum. They score very high in our work, and we've been making the point that this is actually the point in the equity cycle when momentum reasserts its leadership," Wald said on CNBC's "Trading Nation." "We like high momentum, and I think these stocks go along [for] the ride." But after the rally, Wald said, some of the stocks have become slightly overbought, with one exception. "One that does stand out playing the rotation game is Smartsheet. It is resuming what...
Kevin Knox plots plan to earn his way back into Knicks rotation By: Alder Almo February 3, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditKevin Knox is trying his best to stay positive after another fall from grace. The third-year forward was a healthy scratch in the New York Knicks’ last two games, preceded by two consecutive scoreless performances. He’s become the latest casualty of Tom Thibodeau’s win-now mentality. Recurring nightmare He had similar nightmares last year. And Knox is drawing strength from last season’s harrowing experience. “Last year was a little low but I really learned a lot from last year being ready at any given time. Just continue to work no matter how much playing time you get,” Knox told reporters via zoom call after Wednesday’s shootaround in Chicago. With the Knicks’ veteran wings Reggie Bullock, Austin Rivers, and Alec Burks all healthy, Knox’s path...
I am not someone who typically uses stealth strategies to play video games — even in ones where I’m supposed to, like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. I’d rather arm my character with heavy melee weapons and blast my way through a level, which is why the Hitman series never really appealed to me. I learned very quickly when I booted up Hitman 3 on Friday that my preferred approach was absolutely not going to work. I would be forced to play stealthily, as developer IO Interactive designed it. At first, I was lost. I wasn’t sure where to go, or what to do. I overheard conversations and immediately forgot them. I acted suspiciously and kept getting caught. My mind immediately went to a different hobby that’s helped me work through problems during the pandemic: journaling. (And then I opened News Brig’s beginner guide, too.) I have a journal that’s a...
Sean McDermott played way too conservative against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs and learned his lesson the hard way. Fans of the Buffalo Bills and Green Bay Packers are both having rough Sundays. The two fanbases are also sitting at home wondering why their coaches couldn’t stop opting for field goals over touchdowns. It is one thing to play like this in a regular season game. But being ultra-conservative in the playoffs is never going to be a recipe for success. That is true against the Chiefs or any team at this point in the year. Kicking short field goals just delayed the inevitable and prevented the Chiefs offense from ever feeling much stress. Andy Reid kept running his usual scheme and the Buffalo defense was faced with an impossible task without help from their head coach. The Bills are still in great shape moving forward. The team won a...
Capitol attack reflects US extremist evolution over decades Citizenship data is latest rollback of Trump census efforts Bruins offense shows signs of life but has a long way to go The Bruins had to have a collective sigh of relief when Jack Studnicka — with his first career NHL goal, no less — broke the team’s even strength scoreless streak. It took 267:38 for the Bruins to score five on five, dating back to August when David Krejci scored in Game 5 of the Second Round against the Lightning. Needless to say, they desperately needed a spark; in the 5-4 shootout victory over the Flyers in their home opener on Thursday night, it finally came. “What was said in the room (during the second intermission) is that we’re too easy to play against offensively,” said Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy. “We discussed a couple of ways we can get...

One of the most anticipated and most criticized games. The CD Projekt title promised us a lot and while it delivered on almost everything, the number of errors it had made us quite disappointed. One of these is on a fairly important story mission and necessary to continue the game. So let’s see How to fix the Play it Safe mission error in Cyberpunk 2077. We have already talked on several occasions about the number of problems that the game has. Even Cyberpunk 2077 modders have gone to work trying to fix many of these. However, there is still much work to be done. How to fix Play it Safe error in Cyberpunk 2077 Like any other game in which we must follow a story to advance, it is essential that these missions work. But as we know Cyberpunk 2077 came out with a lot of errors and there are...
Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Nets newcomer James Harden are all used to leading their teams, scoring points and setting records. How are they going to share, to step back from being heads of hierarchies to playing good soldiers? “Chemistry. Sacrifice,” Harden said Friday. “We’re all elite, so depending on the game and what’s going on throughout the course of the game, that’s going to determine who gets the ball and who makes the plays. “We’re all unselfish, we’re all willing passers and we play basketball the right way.” Harden is questionable to debut Saturday versus the Magic at Barclays Center. He and coach Steve Nash kept using the word “sacrifice” Friday, as general manager Sean Marks had the day before. Harden knows he can’t play the same way he has in the past and expect to lift the ultimate prize. “We have two elite scorers that the world knows...
De La Salle High’s Justin Alumbaugh and Serra’s Patrick Walsh aren’t used to seeing time run out for their ultra successful football teams. Yet they’re just like every other coach these days, with COVID-19 protocols threatening to further delay a season that isn’t even promised. While the California Department of Public Health had targeted Jan. 25 as the earliest possible start to high school sports, the agency also said it would reassess the situation by Jan. 4. That deadline came and went last week, triggering fear of perhaps a longer wait for athletics while Bay Area counties remain under stay-at-home orders. That’s why Walsh and Alumbaugh, in conjunction with the Walsh-created “Golden State HS Football Coaches Community,” are leading an all-out blitz to deliver a message to both state and county health officials. They’re armed with data showing it will be safe for kids to return to...

Getty Derrick Henry slams the Ravens on a run. The Baltimore Ravens are getting set for a huge weekend matchup against the Tennessee Titans in the playoffs, and the teams are no strangers to each other considering their past results. Last season, the Ravens were thumped by the Titans 28-12 in the divisional round. After that, the Titans won an overtime game against the Ravens this season that was very hard fought and tough. It’s clear the team’s don’t like each other much, and it’s clear that could play a major role in what happens for this matchup as it gets going. On Good Morning Football, host Peter Schrager explained why he’s excited for the matchup, and said the Ravens have been preparing for this game for a long time. "Last time the @Titans faced the @Ravens, they came into Baltimore, danced all over their logo & beat...

Nick Mullens will miss the rest of the season with a serious elbow injury, moving third-stringer C.J. Beathard into a starting role for the final two games and sending the San Francisco 49ers on desperate search for a backup. Mullens got hurt late in Sunday’s loss at Dallas and coach Kyle Shanahan said he will likely need reconstructive surgery on his throwing elbow. Starter Jimmy Garoppolo has been cleared to return to practice from an ankle injury that has sidelined him the past six games, but won’t be ready to play Saturday night against Arizona. Backup Josh Johnson was placed on the COVID-19 list Tuesday, leaving Beathard as the only available quarterback. Shanahan said he doesn’t expect Garoppolo to be cleared to play this week. “I’d be very surprised if that happens,” he said. “Right now, he’s safe to go out to practice, which we’re only having to walkthrough...

ATLANTA (AP) — The Falcons have plenty of experience at this, far more than they would like. For the third year in a row, Atlanta (4-8) heads into the final month of the season with not a lot to play for beyond pride. An 0-5 start essentially doomed the season, as well as costing coach Dan Quinn his job. Now, after two losses to the New Orleans Saints in the past three weeks, the Falcons move on to Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers merely trying to take the first step toward salvaging a .500 season. That’s enough to keep quarterback Matt Ryan motivated. “Every time you step on the field in this league, it’s a great opportunity to showcase what you can do,” he said Wednesday. “Whether you’re trying to secure your position within the organization or prove it to someone else, my messaging to all the...
NEW YORK (AP) — It was a coach-player union that made the New York Jets excited about what could be. Adam Gase was the hotshot offensive guru, and Sam Darnold the young gun quarterback and face of the franchise. Instead, the Jets can only lament what should have been. “It’s on me to get him to play better than what he’s played,” Gase said Thursday. “And so far, I haven’t done a good enough job.” The fallout from that will likely be significant this offseason. With the Jets sitting at 0-11, Gase is almost certainly gone after the regular-season finale. And, with Darnold struggling to progress in his third season, New York will likely move on from him, too. The Jets currently hold the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft in April and it’s looking increasingly more likely that Clemson star QB Trevor Lawrence will be there for them...
It is probably a little greedy for Knicks fans to ask Obi Toppin to show up in a couple of weeks and be an instant megastar, the way Kareem was back in the day, or Magic, or Shaq. That isn’t realistic, so it’s silly to even speculate. For all his accomplishments at Dayton, Toppin remains a growth stock. His future is far more intriguing than his present. You know what’s a reasonable goal for Toppin, and for the people who will latch their hopes onto his engine with the furious fervor of true believers? For some other fan base — in Utah or Denver, in Miami or Minneapolis — to look up some day soon, look at Obi Toppin, and see the same things, say the same things, that Knicks fans have said in recent years when they’ve discovered Jamal Murray on a late-night TNT game, when they’ve marveled at...
At its best, Mike Anderson’s relentless uptempo style of play is known as “40 minutes of hell.” This was more like a roller coaster. Fortunately for St. John’s, it survived. But not by much. A 20-point second-half lead got trimmed to one in the final minute. Large stretches of strong play nearly went to waste. Ultimately, though, the Johnnies survived dogged Boston College in the Mohegan Sun bubble in Uncasville, Conn., improving to 3-0 on the strength of a 97-93 victory. Up 13 with 2:39 left, St. John’s nearly came undone, committing four turnovers, watching three key players foul out, and allowing Boston College to reel off 12 of the game’s next 13 points in the span of 2:09. But Greg Williams Jr. hit three clutch free throws in the final 43 seconds and Julian Champagnie, in his season debut after missing the first two games with an ankle injury,...

Ben Simmons is one of the best young players in the NBA. The Australian was the number one pick in the 2016 NBA Draft for the Philadelphia 76ers. But he got injured his first season and didn’t play for the entirety of the first year. In his second year, Simmons completely took over. He played an amazing season and won the 2018 Rookie of the Year award. Simmons is a fantastic scorer and passer. However, the one criticism levied on Simmons is his inability to shoot the ball. By Michael Hurley, CBS Boston BOSTON (CBS) — The 2020 Patriots have gotten a front-row seat to the future of the NFL’s quarterbacks. Fittingly, they also happen to employ a man who helped inspire those young QBs to become the stars they are today. In Week 10, it was reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. In Week 11, it was Deshaun Watson. This upcoming week, it’ll be Kyler Murray. Throw in Josh Allen in Week 8, and the Patriots have seen quite a bit of the NFL’s next generation of dual threat quarterbacks. Unsurprisingly, those young bucks hold Newton in high regard. As they were coming up through the high school and collegiate ranks, Newton was winning a national championship and a Heisman at Auburn, and then leading the Panthers to a Super Bowl while winning an NFL MVP award. While Newton appreciates his role in giving those young QBs someone to look...
The last time the state of Washington went a year without an Apple Cup, the Nazis were in retreat along the Western Front. To make up for the hiatus, the Huskies and Cougars returned to competition the next year, in the fall of 1945, and played twice. UW won the first game, in Seattle, 6-0, while WSU took the rematch in Pullman, 7-0. Now, COVID-19 is raging, the Cougars are depleted, and the rivalry’s 113th edition is in doubt. It won’t be played as scheduled on Friday; no makeup date has been set. But unusual circumstances — whether it’s a World War or a global pandemic — require creative solutions, especially for something as sacred as the Apple Cup is to the Evergreen State. They need to play, no matter what it takes or when it happens. It might work within the framework of the Pac-12’s seven-game schedule, assuming the...
(CNN)Donald Trump seems to have spent most of the year working on his reelection rather than the duties of the presidency. Now that he has lost, it appears he has really checked out. Dean Obeidallah On Saturday morning, Trump joined an online meeting of G20 leaders at 8 a.m. ET to discuss Covid-19 and other issues of concern. How did Trump approach this vitally important conference? He began tweeting about 13 minutes into the opening session, spewing more baseless claims about voter fraud in an effort to overturn the 2020 election. And by 10 a.m. Trump departed to go play golf, skipping a special side conference that was focused on the coronavirus crisis that's exploding in many countries -- including our own. Beyond Trump's non-stop efforts to erode US democracy with lies about voter fraud, the dangerous blocking of the start of President-elect Joe Biden's transition until the General...

GILLSBURG, Miss. (AP) — Lynyrd Skynyrd, the rock band famous for “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird,” now has highway signs pointing to the site of the Mississippi plane crash that claimed the lives of some of its members. Fans gathered Sunday as the Mississippi Department of Transportation unveiled exit signs from Interstate 55 near McComb and state Highway 568 near Gillsburg, the Enterprise-Journal reported. The signs provide direction toward a monument commemorating the Oct. 20, 1977, plane crash that killed some members of the band. Three large granite markers were put up in Gillsburg in 2019, but until the exit signs were recently added, many people had to guess how to find the site in a wooded area near the Louisiana state line. “People were always asking where the crash site is. It’s very difficult to get to and there are no markings,” said said Bobby McDaniel, president...

AUGUSTA, Ga. (Reuters) - For many people 2020 will not be a year they remember fondly, but Masters champion Dustin Johnson will not be one of them. COVID-19 has touched many lives, including Johnson's after he was forced off the PGA Tour and into quarantine last month after testing positive for the novel coronavirus. Yet that nightmare was overtaken by a childhood dream on Sunday as Johnson carded a final-round four-under-par 68 to clinch a five-stroke victory over Australian Cameron Smith and South Korean Im Sung-jae at Augusta National. Growing up an hour away in Columbia, South Carolina, every putt Johnson would make around the practice green was to win the Masters. Yet he could never have imagined his moment would come in November not April and the final shot would be greeted not by roars but barely audible applause from a handful of spectators allowed onto Augusta National due...

“At the end of the day, the consumer will decide. We will be where the consumer is.” Take-to-Interactive, the parent company of developers like 2K and Rockstar, says it is “very skeptical” of game subscription services such as the Xbox Game Pass. In a question-and-answer edition following a recent revenue call, Tag-do leader Carl Sladoff said that despite the company being “open-minded” and having made its games available on such services in the past, subscribers are not sure if they will be the only way or the primary way to distribute and play games. He added that the “price point” for owning a game is “very reasonable and very low, actually on an hourly basis”. “I do not think our views have changed much, we are open-minded,” Sladoff said in the call (thank you, GI.biz). “We are very skeptical that subscriptions are the only way or the primary...

NEW LEXINGTON — There are few things, in southeastern Ohio volleyball anyways, quite like a Jeep sweep. However, such a South Webster win on Thursday night took on even more meaning. That’s because the Jeeps, making their second consecutive Division IV regional semifinal appearance and third in the past five years, joined seven other programs in forming the 2020 small-school Elite Eight — as South Webster swept first-time regional qualifier Shadyside 25-19, 25-19 and 25-8 at New Lexington High School. For the Jeeps, not only did they raise their stellar record to 24-1, but more importantly, they advanced to only their second regional championship match in program history. In other words, the Elite Eight is hallowed ground —but even more so is the coveted state tournament, which the Jeeps are officially only one win away. This is South Webster’s fifth all-time regional tournament —all since 2002 but only its second...

She noted that Activision was down about 1% heading into the report versus the Nasdaq Composite's more than 2% gain. "I think the company benefits from digital gaming consoles, it is going to improve already robust margins of 77.5%, I believe, and the company has done a great job of beating on revenues 17 out of the last 20 quarters," Tengler said. No one outside of the Jets organization is going to give the team a shot to win this weekend against the Chiefs in Kansas City. The Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl champions and one of the favorites to win it again this year. The Jets are 0-7. Still, the Jets players don’t want to hear they have no chance. “Every time you line up to play, you have a chance to win,” Jets guard Greg Van Roten said. “It doesn’t matter what your record is or who you’re playing against. You’ve still got to play the game and make the plays and try your best. I don’t think anybody is going to shy away from this opportunity. If this had been an ordinary year — and it seems safe to say, by now, it certainly is not — coach Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes would be preparing this week for their seventh game of the season. Instead, they are delighted to be getting set for their opening game. Already, such teams as Clemson, Alabama and Notre Dame have played at least four games and won them all. That’s a lot of ground to make up in a short time. Because the Big Ten initially chose to postpone its football season into the spring, then changed that decision to nearly a two-month delay, the Buckeyes have eight weeks to play eight games, then one more to play in the Big Ten Champions Week. The 49ers suffered a shocking defeat Sunday at Levi’s Stadium as the Miami Dolphins blew them out, 43-17. Jimmy Garoppolo was ineffective in the first half before head coach Kyle Shanahan benched him in the second half, citing Garoppolo’s sprained ankle and a desire to keep him safe. The defense was equally bad, particularly in the injury-riddled secondary as Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick picked San Francisco apart on his way to 350 passing yards. Most children have wild imaginations, but sometimes pretend play takes a turn and the once wholesome act takes on a violent theme. Although some parents may be concerned when their child make-believes fighting and killing, a new study suggests it is actually their way of 'rehearsing' for a real-world scenario. Researchers from the University of Cambridge found the pretend aggression tend to surface when a child's playmate is considered to be bad-tempered by their peers. The team speculates that these scenarios arise in an attempt to stop playmates becoming angry by giving them a pretend situation in which to 'let off steam', or simply to keep them playing by appealing to their nature. Getty Duron Harmon celebrates a big play for the Lions. The Detroit Lions have scuffled and struggled to the tune of a 1-3 record so far this season, but according to some of the players, it’s on them and not necessarily the coaching staff. Speaking to the media on Monday after a frustrating 35-29 loss to the New Orleans Saints which opened the floodgates of criticism against Matt Patricia and his staff, veteran safety Duron Harmon thinks more attention should be paid to the culpability of the players, who aren’t executing on the field which is harming the perception of the staff. Duron Harmon: "We gotta be honest with ourselves. We're not playing the way we need to play. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — This was supposed to be the season New York Giants tight end Evan Engram lived up to the hype. The 2017 first-round draft pick had shown flashes in his first three seasons, only to be slowed by injuries — again and again. All that was forgotten in training camp. Engram made one big play after another in an NFL camp overshadowed by the coronavirus pandemic. He was making some have visions of former Giants stars Mark Bavaro and Jeremy Shockey running toward the end zone. Two games into the season, Engram is an enigma. EDMONTON, Alberta (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — The Dallas Stars may not have to worry about ‘high voltage’ preventing them from winning the finals. Penalties are the clear and present danger the team will have to overcome if they want to bring another championship to the Big D. It’s hard to win a hockey game taking three penalties in the first 13 minutes, especially against a dangerous power play that can snap the puck around with ease. That is exactly what the Stars did to open Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday night, digging themselves a hole too deep to climb out of and allowing the Tampa Bay Lightning to tie the series with two crucial power-play goals in a 3-2 win. “That’s where we lost the game,” said Stars forward Mattias Janmark, who took the first penalty of the game. “We don’t want to take penalties. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets talked all week about flushing away their season-opening loss and showing signs of progress. It took just one play against the San Francisco 49ers to send all that optimism down the tubes. Afterward, coach Adam Gase’s salty language summed up the state of his team, which looked inept in a 31-13 defeat Sunday. “I’m pissed right now,” Gase said. “That (expletive) is no fun going out there and getting your ass beat. We need to get better fast.” New York is 0-2 and already looking like a team in big trouble. The Jets were not competitive in a 27-17 loss at Buffalo last week. SANTA CLARA — To grasp why Dante Pettis might be the 49ers’ best reclamation project at training camp, go back to last season, specifically their Super Bowl LIV defeat. Pettis did not suit up for it. He was a healthy scratch. “If that doesn’t change the way someone approaches the offseason, they don’t want to be in the NFL,” Pettis said Friday. “There’s not too many things worse than that football-wise that could get you going, being inactive for the Super Bowl. “That was the last, final straw, I guess. Especially heading into the offseason, there’s not much more than that that could get someone going.” Pettis, in a compelling video call with reporters, emotionally revisited last season’s demise and how it’s fueled what indeed looks like a stirring comeback. He did not play last season’s final eight games, a skid that began with a Nov. 29 knee injury and...

There’s an old college football joke that the ‘N’ on Nebraska’s helmets stands for “knowledge.” Scott Frost has fit right in. His first two teams in Lincoln have been underwhelming, but his public criticism of the Big Ten’s decision to postpone football this fall was embarrassing. “Our university is committed to playing no matter what, no matter what that looks like and how that looks,” Frost said Tuesday during a news conference. “We want to play no matter who it is or where it is.” There’s a lot to unpack there, but let’s cut to the chase. Nebraska is not long for the Big Ten. You don’t say something like that unless you’ve been thinking about this for a while, not unless you’re a complete idiot — and let’s give Frost the benefit of the doubt here. In any case, Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren opened the door for the...

By DOUG FERGUSON, AP Golf Writer SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Brooks Koepka now has gone more than a full year without winning, a drought he hasn't experienced since he was still new enough on the PGA Tour that his name was mistakenly pronounced “cupcake.” If it doesn't seem like a full year, that's because it really wasn't. Three months were lost when he injured his left knee in October from slipping off a wet slab of concrete while walking off the tee at the CJ Cup in South Korea. Another three months were lost during the COVID-19 pandemic. Either way, the PGA Championship should be the perfect place to end it. It's a major, and Koepka believes those are the easiest for him to win. He said that last year going into the PGA Championship at Bethpage Black, right before he set the major championship record for the lowest 36-hole...

One of the stars of the Kansas City Chiefs's Super Bowl-winning side has announced he is opting out of the 2020 season, declaring it unsafe for players and spectators during the COVID-19 pandemic. Canada-born Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, 29, studied medicine at McGill University in his hometown of Montreal, graduating in May 2018. When the pandemic hit, Duvernay-Tardif spent nine weeks volunteering as a medic in Montreal - a decision, he said, which informed his choice not to play this season. 'Being at the frontline during this offseason has given me a different perspective on this pandemic and the stress it puts on individuals and our healthcare system,' he announced on July 24.  'I cannot allow myself to potentially transmit the virus in our communities simply to play the sport that I love.  'If I am to take risks, I will do it caring for patients.' Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill thinks football has to happen if it can be done safely. The biggest question in the world of sports at the moment is whether or not millions of fans around the country will get college football games in the fall. As we continue to fight against the coronavirus pandemic, nobody seems to know the answer. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football) Gill thinks that we simply have to play football if there’s an avenue because it’s so valuable for society. He told Paul Finebaum, “The enterprise is so valuable to the society, to the community, to the student-athletes, and everyone who participates in it. That if we can find a way to safely play, following the advice of our medical professionals, we should.” “The enterprise is so valuable to the society, to the community, to the student-athletes, and everyone...
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Mike Trout is confident enough in baseball’s safety rules to stay on the field during the coronavirus pandemic. Trout has decided to play for the Los Angeles Angels in the shortened baseball season, although his year will be paused in a few weeks by the birth of his first child. The three-time AL MVP confirmed his decision Wednesday before the Angels’ final exhibition game against the San Diego Padres at Angel Stadium. Trout expressed uncertainty this month about the safety of this unique major league campaign, saying he wouldn’t risk his growing family’s health to participate. After three weeks of experience with the regulations put in place by the Angels and Major League Baseball, Trout is cautiously optimistic about baseball’s ability to hold a season safely. “I’m playing,” Trout said on a video conference call. “It’s definitely been great so far.” Trout will be in the lineup...

But now I just get home workouts. Ride the bike, treadmill, lift weights and pretty much stay sharp that way. But I don't play basketball.” As it turns out, that was Antetokounmpo trying to...
