Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 24 points and Jordan Poole added 19 but the Warriors’ comeback fell short in their 108-98 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers Tuesday night at Chase Center. Poor shooting in the first and fourth quarters ultimately doomed Golden State (22-22) despite a 40-point third quarter that helped erase a 24-point deficit. The Warriors without Stephen Curry (tailbone) for the third straight game scored just 17 points in the first quarter and made 36.2% of their shots in the first half to dig a 59-45 hole by halftime. Things changed in the third quarter, when they shot 68.4% overall. Poole made three free throws to tie the game, then Oubre drained a free throw to give the Warriors their first lead, 75-74, with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter. Guard Damion Lee (16 points on 6-for-7 shooting) put the finishing touches on a 38-15 run...
The Lakers met the Warriors almost shorthanded, without the likes of Anthony Davis, Alex Caruso, and Marc Gasol. Even then, LeBron James and his men completely outplayed the Warriors in their third game of this season. Steph Curry was the lone warrior who posed problems for the Lakers’ defenders, while no one else could do much damage. The Lakers utilized their bench quite effectively and took the driving seat in the early minutes of the game.  LeBron James and his trademark shot-making When it came down to scoring, King James had a laid-back first half where he added just 9 points in total at 60% from the field. However, he also made 6 assists in that half, which helped the players like Montrezl Harrell who looked completely locked-in. But LeBron James soon picked up the rhythm and scored back-to-back fadeaway shots in the third quarter to add six more points...
LeBron James has transitioned from being a scoring machine to becoming a record-setting factory. Every other night, he would come out and break a record or two without paying heed to any ‘minor’ achievements.  In the Lakers’ 128-97 blowout victory against the Warriors, King James added yet another league record to his bank. He played for 30 minutes, which was the most by any player from both teams, and ensured the Lakers stayed productive.  An aging LeBron James and his expanding legacy LeBron James, 36, is not ready to slow down and his numbers largely prove how no one has ever been as consistent. Be it his average time on the court or his high scoring every other night, the L-Train is taking it one match at a time to chart new territories. In the game against the Warriors, he scored 22 points, 10 boards, and 11 assists to...
Steph Curry is arguably one of the best players in the NBA right now. The Warriors’ guard is a scoring machine on the court and is a must-watch in any game he plays. Yesterday, Steph celebrated his 33rd birthday before going head to head against the Utah Jazz. Before the game, however, teammate and longtime friend Draymond Green posted a heartfelt post for Curry and even called him the G.O.A.T. Green wrote, “Happy born day to my brotha! Been on this climb together for 9 years. But, even more important than the climb, 9 years ago I gained a brother for a lifetime. Got your back til the casket drop 30! Now keep doing G.O.A.T. shit! Ruin the game!” Ever since their debut with the Warriors, Green and Curry have developed a great relationship on the court and off it. With a core group of the players missing from their...
What separates the great players is consistency, and it’s a lack of consistency that has kept these Warriors from rising up the ranks in the Western Conference standings. One night after a statement win over the Utah Jazz — owner’s of the league’s best record — Stephen Curry scored 27 points, but did not get much help from his supporting cast as the Warriors fell to the Lakers, 128-97, Monday night at Chase Center. After scoring a season-high 28 points against the Jazz, Andrew Wiggins finished with just 15 points on 5-for-9 shooting Monday. Kelly Oubre Jr. mustered only 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting, and no other Warriors player scored in the double-digits before garbage time. Meanwhile, the Lakers missing Anthony Davis (right calf strain) and Marc Gasol (health and safety protocols) dominated points in the paint (68-40) and rebounds (46-30) as Montrezl Harrell scored 27 points...

In a nationally televised game billed as a matchup between MVP candidates, it took until the final minutes to get the duel between Stephen Curry and Damian Lillard so many had anticipated. Curry (35 points on 13-for-28 shooting, 5-for-14 from 3-point range) was the game’s high-scorer, but was bested by Lillard in the final 4 1/2 minutes, in which Lillard scored 10 points and drew a key charge as the Warriors fell to the Trail Blazers 108-106 Wednesday night in Portland on ESPN. Following a disappointing effort against the Lakers Sunday, the Warriors (19-17) opened up the game with a 10-0 lead and Curry scored 16 points in the first quarter. However, he did not get much help the rest of the way. No teammate scored more than 14 points, and the non-Curry Warriors shot just 40.5% overall. Still, the Warriors led for most of the game...

The champions were ahead by 20 points (41-21) from the first period and increased their handicap by 29 points at halftime! They scored 73 points and these are the most in so much time for the current season. Well, so that there would be no strange surprise, they pressed the accelerator a little more in the third period, they escaped with 35 and somewhere there LeBron went to the bench to rest for a while. ...

It seems crazy to make an MVP case for Steph Curry using just two data points but, honestly, that’s enough to get you most of the way there. As was pointed out in NBA Reddit, as of today Curry is averaging 30.1 points per game on a 66.9 true shooting percentage — identical numbers to the 2015-16 season when he became the first unanimous MVP in NBA history. Curry is not currently atop the MVP leaderboard for a variety of reasons, the Warriors hovering barely above 0.500 being one of the major ones. It’s weird that the MVP voting often intertwines team success and individual accomplishments in different ways for different players (in different seasons). But given the context and treated purely as an...

In what should have been an easy win in their return home, the Warriors instead avoided their worst loss of the season, defeating the Orlando Magic, 111-105, Thursday night at Chase Center. It looked like the Warriors (14-12) were on their way to an easy win against a struggling Magic team when Kelly Oubre Jr.’s 3-pointer put the Warriors up by 13 points with 10:27 left in the second quarter. But Orlando answered with a 26-7 run to take a 48-42 advantage and turn the game into a back-and-forth affair that featured six lead changes. DALLAS (AP) — Luka Doncic tied his career high with 42 points in a scoring duel with Stephen Curry, leading the Dallas Mavericks to a 134-132 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. The prime-time matchup on national TV lived up to the billing, with Curry hitting a season-high 11 3-pointers on the way to 57 points. It was the second-highest total of the Golden State star’s career, behind the 62 points he scored in early January in a win over Portland. Doncic was 12 of 23 from field, 7 for 12 from 3-point range and 11 of 14 on free throws with 11 assists and seven rebounds as the Mavericks ended a six-game home losing streak, the second-longest in Rick Carlisle’s 13 seasons as coach. Stephen Curry scored 57 points and made 11 3-pointers but the Warriors lost to the Mavericks, 134-132, in Dallas Saturday night. It was the eighth time Curry has scored at least 50 points, and his 16th game with 10 or more 3-pointers in his career. Curry’s night was highlighted by a deep heat check from the Mavericks’ logo in transition. After the ball splashed through the net, Curry posed, shimmied his shoulders and let out a roar. But despite Curry’s heroics, the Warriors (12-11) had difficulty impeding the Dallas offense, as Luka Doncic scored 42 points and the Mavericks (10-14) marched to the line, where they made 25-of-30 free throws. Ultimately, Golden State may have been doomed by a slow start and early 18-2 hole. The Warriors led just once all game, after Andrew Wiggins’ corner 3-pointer put them up by one with 4:11 to go...
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — James Wiseman hardly felt he had to prove something to the team that didn’t draft him. The rookie center came off Golden State’s bench to score a career-high 25 points, dazzling opposite No. 1 pick Anthony Edwards in a matchup of last year’s top two draft selections, and the Warriors beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 123-111 on Wednesday night. Edwards, who like Wiseman is just 19, also scored 25 points for his second-highest NBA total. Wiseman, however, said he wasn’t looking to show anything to the Minnesota brass who chose Edwards instead. “I really wasn’t motivated by that factor,” Wiseman said. The big man dunked, knocked down all three of his 3-point tries and shot 9 for 14. He also blocked two shots, not fouling four times while going straight up to utilize his 7-foot frame. “That was one of my best games defensively,” Wiseman said. His...
