All senior members of the Royal Family will now wear mourning dress at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral on Saturday. The Daily Mail understands that, in an unprecedented about-turn, a last minute decision, approved by the Queen, has been made that no royals will wear military uniform in order to present a united family front. Behind the scenes, courtiers have been racked by concern that Prince Harry, who was forced to give up his honorary military titles after he acrimoniously quit royal duties and moved to the US, would be the only senior royal not in uniform. Harry, 36, is understood to have wanted to wear the Blues and Royals dress uniform he wore on his wedding day in May 2018. As a former captain with the Household Cavalry, however, he is entitled only to wear a suit, with any medals he has been awarded in the course of his duties...

He was stripped of his role as Captain General of the Royal Marines, which he took over from Prince Philip, after deciding to quit royal duties last year. He also lost two other honorary military positions. This means he cannot wear the corresponding uniforms at official events. Finding a silver lining during 2020 hasn't been easy for most people. But if it wasn’t for the pandemic, the Mad Dog Blues Experience blues band wouldn’t have had the opportunity to complete its double-album, Family Reunion 2020, or have its release party at Dazzle on October 15.   Mark “Mad Dog” Friedman — harmonica player, artist, poet, and bandleader — had planned to tour in 2020. On the road, he would commemorate the night he earned his name, Mad Dog — a night of drinking too much MD 20/20 wine and howling at the moon in college. But then the pandemic hit. Instagram bloggers are favouring calming shades of grey, blue and green for their walls, research reveals. Property advice website homehow.co.uk analysed paint colour hashtags on Instagram to reveal the 15 shades garnering the most interest on the social network.  Perhaps unsurprisingly given its rise in popularity in recent years, it is a shade of grey that comes out on top. There is also significant interest in soft, dusty shades of pink and peach, with three different colours making the cut.  British paint giant Farrow & Ball is the most popular brand, accounting for more than half the list. More affordable Dulux is also well represented, with four of the 15 shades from the decorating stalwart.  To help explain why each shade has been such a success, FEMAIL spoke to Alex Willcocks, the director of London-based Burbeck Interiors, who offered his professional opinion on each.   1. MARCOS ALONSO’s pain turned into Reece James’ gain on Saturday night. The 20-year-old rising star stepped in after Frank Lampard rang the changes at the back following Wednesday’s crumbling at West Ham. 2Reece James had a comfortable evening in Chelsea's 2-0 winCredit: EPA   Lampard was furious at how his team handed the Hammers a 3-2 victory and Alonso, along with Antonio Rudiger, paid the price. The present American moment is a frightening one, where crowds of protesters, egged on by the mainstream media, are not only protesting what they see as racial injustice, but attempting to overturn our entire political and economic system. In so doing, they demand that everyone confirm to their whims and repeat their mantras, on pain of being “canceled” or shunted to the margins of society. It seems scary, and it is, but the good news is that it was all predicted 200 years ago. The French philosopher Alexis de Tocqueville wrote Democracy in America after traveling extensively in the United States in the heyday of our republic. He came away with a profound appreciation for the ideas, habits, and institutions that made American democracy work. But he also diagnosed the risks and flaws of our grand experiment. He foresaw not only that slavery and racism would lead to conflict, but also that...
For indispensable reporting on the coronavirus crisis and more, subscribe to Mother Jones' newsletters. Adapting creatively in quarantine is a challenge for artists everywhere, but today brings cause for celebration: the release of new music and the birthday of its composer. Happy release day and birthday to the relentlessly imaginative New York-based musician Stern. His new track lays bare the “psychological effects of the pandemic” on his memory, mental health, and family, he tells me. The title’s inspiration came from his mother, whose care and support gave Stern the idea. “She’s my muse,” he says, crediting her with the impressive word “peregrinations,” meaning sojourn or journey, in “Peregrinations of a Rueful Mind.” (The rueful mind is Stern’s, not his mother’s.) The music is both disorienting and reorienting: an epic exploration, with a slow-motion collapse of space and time; a layered implosion of guitar, synth, horns, percussion, and strings; real-life barn...
FRANK LAMPARD has fond memories of Villa Park, as this was the stadium in 2013 where he broke Bobby Tambling’s Chelsea scoring record of 202 goals. The Chelsea manager was once again left in a good mood at the same ground as his team bounced back from conceding Kortney’s Hause’s opener to triumph with goals from substitute Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud. 7 Super-sub Christian Pulisic made an instant impact for Chelsea, scoring within five minutes of coming off the bench 7 Pulisic scored the equaliser before laying on an assist for Giroud two minutes later 7 Chelsea scored two in two minutes, with Giroud grabbing the second For Lampard, this was a belated birthday present as he turned 42 yesterday and the three points strengthened the fourth-placed team's Champions League hopes.
