If you’ve stuffed yourself into a post-Thanksgiving haze and feel in need of a good detox, you’re not alone. Millions of Americans eat their way into a food coma on Thanksgiving. Those of us on plant-based diets are no more immune to the effects of Holiday food than anyone else, and it can be easy thinking that just because your seven-layer carrot cake is vegan, it’s also a good choice for your body. From there, it isn’t long before the Holidays are in full swing and our eating habits have transformed into gluttonous Mr. Hyde versions of their regular selves. Eating too much food can be stressful on your body. While cleansing after the Holidays is popular, it’s also not the best choice for your health, especially if you plan on enjoying yourself at the Thanksgiving table. DEAR MISS MANNERS: My daughter married into a very nice family. They are a fairly small group, as are we, so we have celebrated holidays together since our children married, usually alternating hosting. We did this on Thanksgiving and I hosted. I prepared the same meal I would’ve prepared regardless — and, yes, it represents a great deal of work, which I am happy to do. When they host, however, it’s a more modest repast, not because of finances, but simply because they don’t have much interest in cooking or baking. I was concerned, after one or two of these frozen-chicken-cutlet, can-of-mixed-vegetables events, that they would feel we were showing off; they have sometimes looked a bit astounded at our table. William Hartmann (left). William Hartmann made headlines when he, along with fellow canvasser Monica Palmer, voted to block the certification of Wayne County, Michigan’s 2020 election results. Wayne County encompasses the predominantly Black city of Detroit. Hartmann, an overtly racist MAGA supporter with a social media presence populated by equally racist propaganda, only seemed to have a problem with Black votes but said he was fine with certifying white, more conservative areas. After being pressured by everybody to do the right thing, Hartmann and Palmer relented; and then, like any pair of MAGA narcissists, having realized that deplorables everywhere were thrilled with their racism, they attempted to fight to have hundreds of thousands of the votes of Michigan’s Black voters nullified.  Hartmann has gone on to continue his fight against good sense, promoting the big lie, and questioning the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Detroit Metro Times, Hartmann is now fighting for his life as a result of contracting … COVID-19. The media outlet says Hartmann’s sister Elizabeth told them that her brother, the former vice chairman of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers,...

Minnesota police said a 5-year-old boy was fatally shot on Thanksgiving by a 13-year-old teen who was brandishing a firearm while making a social media video.  In a statement, the Brooklyn Park Police Department (BPPD) said officers were called to a home on Thursday evening, where they found the 5-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers attempted to render first aid, but the child died at the scene.  Investigators believe that the 13-year-old male accidentally fired the gun while he and several other teens were making a social media video at the residence.  “Preliminary information leads investigators to believe that the 13-year-old male who fired the weapon accidentally shot the 5-year-old victim,” BPPD said in its statement.  BPPD Deputy Chief Mark Bruley told CBS affiliate WCCO that adults were home when the incident occurred, adding it is not clear how the teen ended up with the firearm.  “Lock them up and lock the ammo up separate,” Bruley said, talking about firearms. “We as adults, it’s our obligation to make sure [kids] don’t have access to them.” This comes as the 13-year-old...

His death brings this year's homicide rate in Philadelphia to a record breaking 506. The grim milestone broke the 1990 record of 500 murders in the span of a year.  Philly police have accused District Attorney Larry Krasner of allowing crime to sky rocket by failing to prosecute gun crime.  Collington's murder was the sixth shooting death in the span of a week in the city plagued with gun violence. Neighbors told the outlet that Collington briefly struggled with the attacker before gunshots rang out.  He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.  No arrests have yet been made.  'Each and every homicide carries with it a profound sense of...
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearm industry trade association, revealed that the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) processed 687,788 background checks during the week leading up to and including Black Friday. FBI’s NICS recorded 187,585 on Black Friday alone, ranking it among the Top 10 Highest Days for NICS checks and a .50 percent increase from Black Friday 2020 (186,645). The NICS checks are unadjusted, representing raw data from the FBI and are inclusive of all background checks related to firearms. NSSF has worked with firearm retailers to spread out special sales offers to customers throughout the week leading up to Black Friday so as not to overwhelm FBI NICS on Black Friday which can result in longer than normal wait times. “This figure of over 687,000 background checks is truly remarkable,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “This year has already been shaping up to be the second strongest year for firearm sales on record, second only to 2020’s record-breaking number of 21 million background checks for a firearm sale. We anticipate, based...
