ABC An engagement ring from The Bachelor franchise The Bachelorette was known for its diversity problem before finally announcing its first-ever Black lead with Rachel Lindsay in 2017. But a full year before that, there was almost a Filipino Bachelorette—and she even filmed scenes for the 12th season of the  ABC dating show before the role was given to someone else. In an interview on the “Here for the Right Reasons” podcast, Caila Quinn, the third-place finisher on Ben Higgins’ season of “The Bachelor,” revealed what it felt like to have the coveted role taken from her at the last minute. “I was temporarily in the running for ‘The Bachelorette,’ and they filmed in my hometown,” Quinn revealed to Us. “And it was kind of crazy because for six months, they would fly me to L.A. to do fittings and for meetings and stuff like that. With six games left in the regular season, the focus for the Warriors is on maximizing this final playoff push. As the schedule winds down, the range of possibilities shrinks. At the start of the Warriors’ final trip of the season, the sixth seed was in play. Two wins and two losses later, avoiding the play-in tournament is no longer realistic and Golden State is positioned to earn the No. 8 seed as it closes out the season with a six-game homestand. Here are some of the biggest questions facing the Warriors with less than two weeks to go. Will they sign another player? When it’s all said and done, ending the trip with Tuesday night’s loss in New Orleans could prove painful. In each of its last four road games, Golden State faced a team with a sub-.500 record. Going 3-1 or even 4-0 was a...

Atlanta Braves slugger Ronald Acuña Jr. hit his tenth homer in Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals, sending him to the top of league scoreboards. On Tuesday night, Braves pitcher Huascar Ynoa and Nationals pitcher Joe Ross had a little duel of their own, both dealing zeros through the first four innings. That is, until Atlanta brought out their not-so-secret weapon: Acuña Jr. stepped up to the plate at the top of the fifth and broke the deadlock, crushing a fly ball over the wall in right-center to put the Braves ahead, 1-0. Acuña Jr. is the first player to reach double-digits in home runs this season, breaking what was a six-way tie atop the MLB leaderboard. Acuña Jr.’s brilliance has not been lost on fans, as some are already speculating to see if he can put together a 40/40 season this year.Ronald Acuña Jr. sends another one into the...
As of today, no Quebec has advanced in the majors. Abraham Toro played in a few games earlier this season Show, But he has been relegated from that point, and will have to wait a while before returning to the Big League. However, it should be noted that while the shortage of players from Belle Province is at a very high level, there are many large Quebec beliefs among the minority. Now, we notice the reference to Charles Leplong, who rolled his pump for a few years in the Texas Rangers system. When the Rangers announced that Quebec would start the season at the AAA level, Leplong learned some great news earlier today. Matthew Boyle of the Journal de Quebec announced this earlier today. What many thought would be a wasted season for Steph Curry may somehow wind up elevating him, as his individual brilliance should shut up any critics forever. After the pandemic left teens across the Bay Area without high school sports for nearly a year, the girls and boys water polo teams at Mt. Pleasant High School in East San Jose faced an even longer hiatus. When Santa Clara County gave the green light for competition return, the Mt. Pleasant program didn’t have the numbers to put together a complete roster. Desperate to keep water polo afloat — a necessary outlet after months and months of Zoom calls within the confines of their homes — the boys and girls decided to join forces this spring onto one, 12-player co-ed team with just enough depth to compete in the Blossom Valley Athletic League’s Santa Teresa Division. They didn’t just compete. The Cardinals went undefeated — 8-0 in league play. “It was a really pleasant surprise,” longtime head coach Andy McKay told the Bay Area News...

The New York Rangers will need this for success next season Jim Bay April 30, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditLast night’s loss to the New York Islanders demonstrated one thing about the young New York Rangers: they still have not learned to win big games yet. This fact became very apparent in the loss to the Isles as the young Blueshirts were manhandled up and down the ice by the veteran rivals. “They were just on top of us,” Adam Fox said in his post-game Zoom conference. “They were moving a little quicker and cycling the puck real well and just keeping us in the D zone. It was definitely tough to get odd-man chances, or really second chance opportunities, so credit them for that.” Of course, most of this is that the Islanders are a veteran, playoff battle-tested team. They have had enough...

Just two days removed from talking about climbing as high as the sixth seed, the Warriors find themselves teetering on the edge of the play-in tournament. Following Thursday night’s 126-114 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, head coach Steve Kerr pointed to the failure to box out as the cause of the loss. He’s right. On a night when Golden State shot 49.4% and held Minnesota to 45.7% shooting, losing the rebounding battle 57-34 and giving up 16 offensive rebounds that gave Minnesota nine additional possessions is a recipe for a second straight loss. “If we boxed out we very easily could have won that game,” Kerr said. But it’s the point of the season when the results are more important than the reason. With just two weeks left in the regular season, teams are what they are. This final stretch is about jostling for position, and the...

The list of position players who continue to rank among the top hitters in the major leagues into their mid-30s is a short one. Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner, 36, and Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel, 37, are the rare exceptions who don’t seem to be slowing down, but for the most part, teams are wary of relying too heavily on hitters who are believed to be past the prime years of their careers. Getty Joel Embiid and Stephen Curry on the court with DeMar DeRozan ahead of the 2018 NBA All-Star Game. As good as the 2020-21 NBA season has been for the Philadelphia 76ers on the whole, Joel Embiid’s individual campaign has been the true gem. The four-time All-Star is playing the best basketball of his career by a college mile, putting up historic numbers for a big man. For the year, he is averaging 30.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.0 steals per contest. He also boasts eye-popping shooting splits of 51-38-85. Embiid is the only player in league history to put up that combined line. Even if you remove the shooting qualifiers, only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bob McAdoo have posted similar numbers in a season (they did it way back in the mid-1970s). As such, Embiid has been a fixture in the MVP race all...

The coach and his Division I-bound defensive end discussed the pros and cons prior to the season, and Elarms-Orr decided to give it one last go in the green and gold. Gatrell said he was even cautious of injuries and delayed Moreau Catholic’s first game by a week. Yet, on the first Friday of Moreau’s season, Elarms-Orr collapsed without making contact with anyone and grasped his knee. Usually, a baffling airball is the only missed shot that becomes newsworthy during the NBA regular season. But Joel Embiid’s Wednesday night miss wasn’t a highlight because it was a laugher, it was one of the most impressive attempts in NBA history. The Phoenix Suns topped the Philadelphia 76ers in their Wednesday night matchup. Featuring two of the league’s best teams, the game nearly went to overtime on the improbable buzzer-beater by Embiid. As Chris Paul’s free throw with 0.8 seconds remaining bounced off the rim for Phoenix, Embiid grabbed the rebound and launched an 85-footer that went literally halfway through the basket before popping back out. I’m not saying Embiid’s shot should count for something, but how many times have we seen a lucky bounce lead to two or three points? Embiid’s heave was on the mark, and a more impressive feat than most of the makes...

Kevin Colbert has had a rough offseason as the Steelers’ GM, but one of his recent mistakes towers over all of his other missteps.  The Steelers are a franchise that prides itself on continuity. Pittsburgh’s resistance to change led GM Kevin Golbert to a huge mistake this offseason. His decision to give Ben Roethlisberger one more season as the team’s starting quarterback will simply push off the painful rebuild steaming towards fans in the Steel City. In fairness to Colbert, the team had pretty well painted itself in a corner when it came to Big Ben heading into the offseason. Simply leaving his contract alone would have allowed Roethlisberger to count as $41.25 million against the team’s 2021 salary cap. The roster implications of allowing the veteran quarterback to take up over 20% of the team’s total cap would have been too severe for the franchise to realistically handle. That...
CHELSEA and Manchester City are cashing in the most from their European exploits so far this season after making the Champions League semi-finals. Both have reeled in just shy of £80million after the Blues saw off Porto and City brushed aside Borussia Dortmund in the last eight. 2 Chelsea have banked £79.8m for their exploits in Europe so far this season while Pep Guardiola's Citizens have netted £76.8m, according to figures from football-coefficient.eu. Winning in the quarter-finals was worth a cool £10.4m to both sides. And if they can go one step further and qualify for the 2021 showpiece final it will be worth another £13m for the club's coffers. If either Chelsea or City lift the trophy they will collect an additional £3.5m but the title would, of course, mean far more. Liverpool missed the chance to reach the last four after a 0-0 draw against Real Madrid...
MIKEL ARTETA will take on his predecessor Unai Emery for a place in the Europa Leauge final. Arsenal dispatched Slavia Prague 4-0 in their quarter-final second leg while Villarreal saw off Tottenham's conquerors Dinamo Zagreb 3-1 on aggregate. 4 And that set up a mouth-watering semi-final clash between the last two Gunners managers. Villarreal host the first leg on April 29 before Emery heads back to the Emirates a week later. The three-time Europa League winner replaced Arsene Wenger in 2018 but only lasted until November 2019 before getting his marching orders. Arteta, 39, was lured back to North London to take over, leaving his role as Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City while Emery returned to their homeland by landing the Villarreal job. But how are the two Spaniards faring in their roles this season - and who is doing better? On the face of it, the...
New York Knicks: 3 players who have exceeded expectations this season By: Alexander Wilson April 16, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Knicks have exceeded all expectations this year with a dominant defense and offense that is testing the bounds of their players’ abilities. In fact, without the top-ranked defense in the NBA, the Knicks would be nowhere near a .500 record on the season. Currently, they’re on a four-game win streak, the first of the 2020–21 regular campaign, and scored a high of 133 against the Memphis Grizzlies in the first win of the streak. Allowing just 104.3 points per game, they have kept themselves in close contests despite inefficient scoring. Nonetheless, without a few key players, the Knicks would be in no man’s land. Three New York Knicks players who are exceeding expectations: 1.) Alec Burks One of the biggest surprises...
The NBA said Thursday that the rate of players needing to miss games because of injuries is down from last season, and within the normal range for what the league has seen over the last five seasons. League data shows the player injury rate this season is down about 6%, even though several marquee players — including LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, James Harden and most recently Jamal Murray — have dealt with injuries in recent weeks. The standout Denver guard will be out for the rest of this season and quite possibly a significant portion of next season. "Injuries are incredibly unfortunate," said NBA senior vice president David Weiss, who helps oversee all the health and safety efforts for the league. "We hate to see them. They’ve always been...

Two seasons after one of the worst seasons a pitcher has ever had, Corbin Burnes might be the best in baseball this year. If you’re looking for an early National League Cy Young Award favorite, look no further than a long-haired, scruffy-bearded right-hander who plies his trade for the Milwaukee Brewers. Look at this Corbin Burnes 97mph Cutter. ???? pic.twitter.com/Ei0A5teJGX — Rob Friedman (@PitchingNinja) April 14, 2021 The changes have worked. He’s striking out 14.9 batters per nine innings this season and 48.4 percent of all batters he’s faced; both would be the highest of any starting pitcher in history. Opponents are hitting just .065 against him this season, which would be the lowest ever by nearly 100 points. It’s an incredible pace, probably an unsustainable one. But Burnes, thanks to his two pitches that he didn’t have earlier in his career, has become, more than any other pitcher...
Warriors center James Wiseman will undergo knee surgery Thursday, a team spokesman told the Bay Area News Group. After the procedure, the Warriors will have a clearer timetable for Wiseman’s return. Wiseman, 20, suffered a meniscus tear in Saturday’s win over the Houston Rockets. While Golden State has yet to rule Wiseman out for the season, it’s likely that his rookie year is done. Depending on the surgery needed, Wiseman’s recovery timeline could range from five weeks to several months. As the Warriors make a playoff push with only 18 games remaining, they are expected to be cautious with Wiseman, who they selected second overall in November’s draft and consider a potential franchise cornerstone. During an up-and-down rookie season, Wiseman had appeared to be turning the corner at the time of his injury, improving his timing as a screen-setter, lob finisher and rim protector. Rookies often...
Every NBA team’s offensive style is in a constant state of evolution. Which teams have undergone the biggest changes this season? Last week, I took a first look at the offensive style for every team in the league this season, using offensive style charts. I’ve used these charts for the past few seasons as a way of visualizing those different approaches each team uses in trying to score. These charts are not meant to evaluate whether an offense is good or bad. They are designed to help illustrate how teams go about the goal of trying to put the ball in the basket. Each team’s offense is evaluated on four stylistic spectrums: No team has seen less style change than the Nuggets this year, which makes sense considering they’re among the league leaders in roster continuity and are continuing to build around an ascendant young star in Nikola Jokic. It’s...
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Six games from The Spring League will air on Fox when the small football league begins its season next month. Fox Sports will be carrying league games for the second straight season, but this is the first time some will air on the main network. Six regular-season games will be on Fox, beginning May 8, as well as the championship game. The remaining 18 regular-season games air on FS1 and FS2. The league, which is in its fifth year, will have eight teams and will use Indianapolis and Houston as its game hubs. TSL has had Johnny Manziel, Zach Mettenberger, Fred Jackson, Ben Tate, Greg Hardy and Ahmad Bradshaw among marquee players during past seasons. “We believe that Fox’s massive reach will help enhance our product as we continue to provide players with critical development opportunities, while also evolving and developing as a league,” said...
More On: new york rangers Rangers star drops the gloves as slump continues Rangers goalie gets first shutout in win over Devils Exiled Ranger had interest from multiple teams before deadline Rangers have crucial decisions to make with influx of young defensemen Less than halfway through the first period of the Rangers’ 3-0 win in Newark Tuesday night, Mika Zibanejad took control of a loose puck through the neutral zone and turned on the jets to skate past two Devils defenders ahead of him on his right. With five quick strides, No. 93 was suddenly all alone and closing in on Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood. He then swiftly got the puck to his forehand and sniped it glove-side to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. That score held up until 7:50 of the third period, when Artemi Panarin doubled it for the Rangers before Pavel Buchnevich’s empty-netter capped the...
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — High-scoring Dallas Stars forward Alexander Radulov will not return this season because he needs surgery to repair a core muscle injury. Goaltender Ben Bishop won’t play at all. Stars general manager Jim Nill said Wednesday that Radulov is expected to be fully recovered for the 2021-22 season. Radulov was limited to only 11 games this season because of a lower-body injury. Bishop, who hasn’t played any games after twice having knee surgery last year, will not play this season. Nill said the move will allow Bishop time to continue his rehabilitation and return to full health for the start of 2021-22. Radulov hasn’t played since March 18, and Nill had said earlier this week that the forward would see a specialist before a long-term decision was made on his playing status. The Stars didn’t say when the surgery would be done. In his...
